3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aromas of chocolate, deep (not burnt) roasted malts, vanilla. Opaque black coffee in color with a thick dark tan head. Subsides but leaves a pretty rim of foam. Flavors of coffee, a dark but creamy chocolate (probably the cocoa nibs which have a distinct flavor); hints of licorice; dry finish. Creamy, appropriately thick on the palate, slightly oily. Overall, somewhat restrained and mellow compared to others; and not wildly complex. But great viscosity, mouthfeel; nice balance, sometimes restrained is good; very accessible.

Rich, sweet chocolate. Somewhat chalky. A bit of metallic twang. Not impressed. You tricked me, Ratebeer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
355 ml.

more of a dry cocoa than a chocolate nibs flavor, but still a nice robust stout.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Oily near-black pour with a slow-to-form finely bubbled brown head. Aroma is very fudgey, chocolate liqueur, subtle coffee. Flavour is rich cocoa without being cloying or fake, some subtle vanilla sweetness, finishing with a distinct capsicum note. This greenpepper finish did not ease off, and if anything became more apparent as the beer went down. No hint of the cherries anywhere-- but I didn’t care, as this beer sat very well with me just the way it was. Best offering from Lakefront? Yep, I think for me it is! Even after having visited the brewery.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at Jerrys in Wicker Park. Black body with a thick ass brown head. The commercial description for this beer scared me but its not a thick sugar bomb. Body is well carbonated and medium thick. Goes down real easy. The cherry serves up tartness that really lightens the beer at the end of the flavor. its a prominent character that isn’t artificial. Vanilla is unnoticeable, thankfully. Chocolate character but the beer doesn’t taste like a hodgepodge of random adjuncts. Hazelnut brownie soda is a good way to describe this flavor. Aroma has a strong hazelnut character as well as my burps. Solid beer. Maybe a bit too much hazelnut as the beer warms.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark brown with ruby lowlights and a very thin brown crown. Aroma picks up chocolate and cherries with some earthy and peated notes beneath and mild alcohol. Taste is sweet and boozy with chocolate, cherries and vanilla. Finishes a touch dry. Not bad.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle... This beer rocks!… Hazy dark-brown pour that sits black in my glass with a small, creamy, rust-colored head. Smells like a brownie - heaps of dark chocolate and toasted nuts, along with a subtle blueberry component. Full-bodied and mega-velvety with airy carbonation. The bittersweet flavor is a marriage of charcoal and ash accompanied by plenty of fudge. Near-perfect balance. Finishes lightly sweet, chocolaty and a just a hint boozy. If memory serves - and it usually doesn’t - this is by far the best offering I’ve ever tried from Lakefront! Bottle courtesy of FlandersNed!

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Malty sweet aroma mixed with a touch of chocolate and some alcohol finish.
Dark brown pour topped with a medium brown head with a small amount of retention and a little lace. Not much carbonation present.
Chocolate dominates the taste from coca with a slight bit of alcohol that strengthens towards the finish. Malty roasted mouth-feel and barely noticeable dryness complements a sensation of drinking a dark chocolate bar.
A not too complex RIS that is easy drinking.

12oz bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, some chocolate, coffee, a little vanilla, and dark fruit, plus some dough and light bitter notes. Flavor the same with a pretty good blend of everything. Smooth texture. A pretty good beer.
