Pure Milwaukee Genius Series 1: Made with three styles of fresh American hops and fruity ale yeast that requires greater fermentation, it finishes with a dark amber appearance, spicy hop flavor and bold, malty backbone. The punch this potent brew packs reminds us all that when you want to make a point, you’re better off making a statement.

Pours a dark reddish-brown color with a 2 finger, tan head that dissipates to a cap. Had aromas of licorice, brown sugar, molasses, a bit of nuttiness, and some floral hops. Real sweet on the tongue, some bland maltiness, and a decent hop bite. Real thick and syrupy going down. I’m beginning to not think to highly of Lakefront Brewery.

650ml bottle from the LCBO in Peterborough, Ontario. Clear mahogany in colour with a thin but lasting beige head, very nice lacing. The aroma is malty, some chocolate, pine and cherries. The flavour is sweet, malty, some bitter chocolate, alcohol and cherries. Warming mouthfeel, medium body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, bitter and warming. A weird Barley Wine type beer. The bitterness becomes too much as it warms.

Amberish. Nose of malty caramel and some skunk hops. Flavor is sweet is caramel and toasted malt with some pine hops. Some candy and hops on the finish. Syrupy. Barley wine-like.

On-tap this pours an amber color with a frothy beige head. The aroma is decently hoppy. The taste is smooth and malty. Good flavor, well made.

Bottle. Nose is very sweet and malty with heavy caramel, some oak/bourbon and vanilla character leeching in, although I don’t think this is barrel-aged, and maple syrup perhaps? Maybe I just associate strong ales with BA now? Pours a mix of ruby and orange, supports a medium, dense and rocky tan head. Medium body with alcohol showing but not burning, flat in the body as well as flavor departments, caramel and fruit with a little final tongue singe, berry with heavy spice, a little wood, a little spice, earth. Touch sugary but not cloying. It’s bright and alive despite the utter dullness of mouthfeel, and there are some interesting treacle and burnt notes in the bg, but not many hops here, at least not anymore. Inching into English barleywine territory, intended or not.

Bottle. Rich and meaty aroma with a discernible hop presence. Dark red body with a thick, lasting tan head. Effervescent carbonation visible. Moderate to strong hops. A tad on the dry side of balanced. Overall an excellent brew. The best I can recall having from Lakefront.

12 oz. bottle, consumed on 12-20-14. Reddish brown / dark amber. Moderate to large amount of long-lasting, light taupe head. Produces good lacing. Looks good in both liquid and head. Fruity, malty, juicy aroma. Scents of plum, red grape, blueberry muffin, cheap perfume. Strong aroma but not my kind of aroma. Flavor is along the lines of the aroma, but it is drier and deeper. Licorice flavor. Quite malty and fruity with some hops dryness in the finish and aftertaste. Poorly balanced and unsophisticated in taste. Medium body. Smooth in the palate. Mostly forgettable palate effects aside from the smoothness. Unlikable and unenjoyable. Becomes more palatable upon multiple sips, causing me to boost the overall score by a single point.

Soooooo. I bought a 22 ounce bottle of this at Cost Plus World Market in Natomas. It says it is 8.0%, No date on the bottle, although it has a 25th anniversary bottle cap, and the brewery was founded in 1987, which means this is either a 2012 or 2013 vintage. Regardless, this beer has nothing but cardboardy and sherry oxidation present on the nose without much else. Light toffee and caramel sweetness, perhaps. Somewhat transparent dark amber body with a pretty strong yellowish head present. Starts with a little fruity sweetness, before this becomes sherry like and full of oxidation in the middle. Good amounts of cardboard. Finishes with some candi sugars and some good leather and cigar tobacco notes. A little mint, too. This actually doesn’t end up being totally horrible.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Aroma: surprisingly hoppy: More like an APA than an "amber ale". A solid mix of malts is also present. Flavor: about as hoppy as a typical APA, but with a robust medium- and dark-roasted malt base. Well-balanced and mildly spicy (hops). Feel: light heat from the higher ABV but relatively smooth and soft. Medium+ body. O: a well-crafted and tasty BPA (Brown Pale Ale).

Don't burn bridges I always say but this is worth a try. Malty sweet aroma from a beautiful red pour. The flavor is malty amber like with a nice hop bite. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
