brewblackhole (1241), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Jun 18, 2008 Spectacular ,grain earthy hop aroma, unlike anything that Lakefront has done with a hop emphasis, one of the best hop aromas that didn’t have citrus and pine dominance, intriguing dark amber copper color, that you wouldn’t suspect to be pumping out all this hop fragrance, taste is also dominated by rich hop flavors small hints of sweet malt balance and a slight red fruitiness lurk in the shadows, but this is all about that dead nuts hopping. Someone really nailed it. I t breaks down a little to quickly for a strong ale, could be beefed up with just a little more body ,but I believe this would get my vote for the best Lakefront brew ever. The team that made this should tackle the long awaited Imperial IPA
Tmoney99 (3650), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Oct 10, 2008 Draft at Hopcat. Poured clear dark brown color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate complex yeasty citrus aroma. Medium body with a slick texture. Moderate balanced flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of average duration. Good drinkable brew. drfabulous (743), Columbia, Missouri, USA Oct 3, 2008 Nice pour. Even after sitting a bit in the basement. A sweet smell I often associate with strong ales. Oh yeah. There is that sweetness. Mix of strong ale and barley wine. Now we are talking. I poured half for the wife. Got to hope she doesn’t like it. Very nice. Rich and full of caramel. Hangs a bit in the aftertaste, but works for me overall. ChainGangGuy (1602), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Sep 29, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, mahogany-hued body with a teeny tiny, off-white head.
Smell: Blending of butterscotch and light caramel in the aroma with supporting notes of pine, unripened cherry, and toast.
Taste: Toasty, sweet caramel and butterscotch maltiness. Lightly fruity. Earthy, piney hops with an assertive bitterness. A lingering bitterness tries to restrain the otherwise malty finish. Definitely hides its ABV well.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Somewhat sticky mouthfeel.
Drinkability: Not a bad little ASA. Far and away, it’s my favorite thing to come out of Lakefront. milewide (500), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Sep 28, 2008 Sweet malt aroma. Sweet malt taste, with some hop aftertaste. Big, solid body. Mouthfeel is its big plus. Medium head. JK (2501), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Sep 13, 2008 Big aroma with hops. The flavor is simple, medium sweet malt and more medium bitter hops. Some citrus fruit. Thick palate for the style. One of Lakefront’s better products.
