Commercial Description:
This recipe is a true craft ale brewed with only water, yeast, hops and malted barley, in keeping with the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. We have designed it with a vibrant golden amber hue and a refreshing body. The mild addition of Kent Golding hops balances the generous amounts of caramel malts to give it a malty rather than a bitter finish. A special strain of California Ale Yeast gives the brew a slight hint of fruity aroma.

Aroma is fairly strong, malty and yeasty, with just a hint of lemon and maybe even a touch of vegetable. It pours a clear amber golden with a typical white head. Flavor is mouth-filling, not complex but satisfying and refreshing; it is mainly malty with some yeasty tones and more than a hint of hops but very little bitterness. Texture is tingly and fizzy, like any good beer.

Bottle. Pours a hazy orange amber body with a thin white head. Floral sweetness and a brett y aroma, hmmm this one may have picked up an infection, very nice. Dry floral leather and some light fruits. Simple and very enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours gold with a white head. Light hoppy aroma with some grainy and sweet malts. The flavor has lightly sweet malt with some fruitiness and light hops. Drinkable, decent. Certainly sessionable.

12oz bottle from a Lakefront mix pack. Another disapointment from Lakefront. I don’t know what it is about these guys but all their beers seem off in some way. Maybe they use cheap ingredients or maybe some strange strain of yeast. Whatever it is I can’t wait to get through this mix pack and be done with them.

Golden pour with a small white head. Aroma of grass and hay. Flavor is somewhat soapy up-front but it does fade to a more bisquit flavor toward the middle. Goldings lend a cardboardish flavor towards the finish which isn’t really surprising or unpleasant. OK beer.

Bottle (355ml). Beer #6 and the last one of "Crappy to mediocre beer rating night". Pours a poor looking hazy golden-orange with a spare diminishing white head -- looks somewhat flat. Oh, that aroma is not much better: Quite grainy along with some tart fruit, vegetal notes and pale malt. Slightly watery flavour of mild tart apples, grain, pale malt and citrus. Average bodied. Wow, this was a big disappointment and a pretty crappy beer.

Lakefront Cattail Ale is a clear golden beer with no head. It smells a little funky with a faint note of lemon. It is soft and medium-light bodied with a clean finish. It tastes a little skunky and grassy. It’s very mild, but I can taste a little alcohol in it. I just wanted to taste a Mild Ale in a bottle.
