eaglefan538 (2351), Wilmington, Delaware, USA May 6, 2007 Pours a reddish pale lager color with a fizzy little head, all carbonation, but it sticks around. The lacing was fairly weak, but the glass was one of my smoother pint glasses, not conducive to a good head. Aroma was tart cherries, that’s about it. The flavor was lightly tart cherries with a grainy, wheaty type base, fairly reminiscent of SA’s Cherry Wheat, which I enjoy but haven’t had in a while (dub me a heretic for saying so, I don’t care). Mouthfeel was a little crisp with the tart wheaty-cherry, carbonated combo, fairly refreshing. Sweet/tart balance was pretty good. Not a bad summer fruit beer. badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Apr 15, 2007 reddish amber body with minimal white head..aroma of tart cherry and vinegar (somewhat like a weak lambic or a nice flemish)...flavor is of sweet cherry, bread, pastry, grains, and light earthy hops (grass?)..somewhat thin and watery...much more aromatic than flavorful Ofortuna (322), Grafton, Wisconsin, USA Dec 11, 2006 Had this lying around for awhile and it seems to have held up. Nice reddish color to it and a decent head. Light aroma of natural cherries and not an extract. Also a light hint of the Mount Hood hops. All this made me anxious to take the first sip. Damn! Watery and thin with hardly any cherry flavour dominating the palate. Weak malt backbone to this. Crisp finish and did oddly make me curious for more. I’m a sucker for fruit beers, but this is no even in the same league as any New Glarus offering. hopdog (5525), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 28, 2006 12oz bottle notched brewed in May. Poured a medium golden color, with a red tint to it, and an averaged sized white head. Aromas of tart cherries - not overpowering but present with not much else. Tastes of pretty much the same. Cherries are what this beer is about, but not an artificial in your face cherriness. Thin body. jigglyjock (159), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 8, 2006 Pours with a completely diminishing white fizzy head and a natural fruit punch red color. Aroma of bitter sweet cherries and a hint of hops. Very well balanced cherry flavored lagar. Not overly sweet. schwaiger (90), Laramie, Wyoming, USA Jul 3, 2006 I really appreciate the delicate nature of this beer. The cherries are not overboard - this is not fruit punch - but they’re certainly present and give this lager a lot of character. 12 oz. bottle. Poured a clear copper with a small, lasting white head and decent lacing. Maybe I poured this too cold, but I didn’t get much on the nose. Some light cherry and brown sugar. Only very mildly sour with some enjoyable honey sweetness, strong carbonation. Crisp and refreshing, cherries do come out nicely in the end. JohnnyOS (646), Golden, Wisconsin, USA Mar 28, 2006 Pours amber with thin white head. Aroma of a malty smuckers jam. Flavor was a sweet-tart version of the aroma, but with more malt and wheat presence. Thin bodied... get a New Glarus. TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA Jan 25, 2006 What I love about this beer is, that as a fruit beer, Lakefront Cherry Beer is a little different. Most fruit beers are ales, this beer is a lager. It is brewed with Wisconsin cherries, and a hefty two pounds of cherry per gallon is used in the brewing of this beer. The aroma and sour flavors of cherry take center stage in this beer.
Lakefront Cherry Beer pours to a slightly hazy golden/pink color with a tight white head, and a moderate carbonation. The nose is the first thing that hits you, aromas of sour cherries marry with subtle touches of biscuit malt aroma. The palate is crisp, with good biscuit malt flavors, and an underpinning of almond/cherry stone flavors. The body is lean, tart, and very smooth. The finish is the show stopper in my opinion, it is a wonderful, sour cherry edge that lingers.
This is a wonderful summer brew, very thirst quenching, and refreshing. It is like drinking fresh picked sour cherries. I could drink a LOT of this beer
