Commercial Description:
This top fermenting amber-colored ale is brewed using generous amounts of malt and kettle hops. The trademark of this ale is its beautiful hop bouquet and taste that comes from a liberal dry hopping of the highest grade Cascade hops during the secondary fermentation. The malt firmness of this ale comes from the perfect mixture of two-row malted barley, carapils, and caramel specialty malts. The ale has an original gravity of 1060 and is fermented at 65 degrees farenheight which imparts the classic ale fruitiness to the brew.

Pours a hazy amber with a lasting off-white head. The aroma is genuinely hoppy, a little spicy, but it’s not as strong as would be expected for an IPA. For an APA, it’s appropriate. Decent maltiness. Appropriate hop flavor and bitterness. Not too shabby.

Bottle: Hazy copper, light head and lacing. Nose of grassy light hops and vague malts, thin and doughy, but lacking character. The flavor is a bit more hoppy but has a zesty apple cider character that doesn’t compliment the lacking hop department. Meh, not that special.

12 oz. bottle at Flat Rock Saloon. Poured clear copper with minimal head. Earthy, biscuity flavor. Meh, nothing you want a sixer of.

12 oz bottle purchased at John’s Grocery in Iowa City. Poured a clear medium orange color. Head was white and reduced over a minute or two to a thin ring/film. Aroma was of light flowery hops, a touch of caramel, and cereal grain. There was delicate sweetness on the tongue. Flavor was similar and hop dominated. Decent.

12 oz. brown bottle. No freshness date seen. Poured out a hazy orange color, with a soapy tan head. Aromas are strictly hops. Cascade hops, to be exact. They overpower the malts completely. Medium mouthfeel, medium body. Flavors are mostly Cascade hops, weak malt backbone. Not great by any means, but not bad either.

Poured light copper color with small head. Sweet malt and floral hop aroma. Decent hop flavor and pretty good with pizza.

Pours amber, white head. Moderate bitterness, some ale fruitiness, finishes dry. Very good session beer.
