bb (2905), Martinez, California, USA Jan 17, 2008 Bottle. Rich mahogony beer with a big dark cream head. Slightl roasty, nutty, smokey aroma. Lingering roasty, caramel flavor. Medium body. Dark malts show nicely. memugi (7), USA does not count Jan 14, 2008 Dark caramel color, little head. Roasty aroma, sweet, pretty thin. Not bad, not great. LtJudge (431), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Jan 11, 2008 Pours a dark color with a small head. Small aromas of coffee and roasted malt. Flavor is of mostly coffee and some roasted malts. Very smooth, and very drinkable! MadMan (497), Tempe, Arizona, USA Dec 23, 2007 Bottle, from the mixer. Pours a dark brown with very little head. Aroma is light, but a bit sweet, has some dryer sheet smell, some hint of clean coffee pot. Flavor comes in with the taste of munich malt, some faint powdery chocolate, and a little coffee. Also has some fresh grass and earthiness to it towards the finish. Overall such a thin profile I had to search for descriptions. Finish is clean, somewhat earthy, and short as hell. I guess I’m missing the "rich body" in this and if by "balanced flavor" they mean they are balancing beer with water then they are definitely right. Plain and empty and another disapointment out of my mixer. DYCSoccer17 (2187), Davis, California, USA Dec 22, 2007 12 ounce bottle from a mixed 8 pack that was purchased at Nugget in Woodland, CA. Quite a bit of roastiness present with some espresso coffee notes as well. There is a bit of an acetic aroma, too. Mahogany/cola colored body with a smallish light tan head. Start has some of the metallic lager-like flavors present, which gives way to a nice, mildly sweet maltiness in the middle. Roasted notes and some light coffee make an appearance. A light, estery finish with a kiss of hops seals the deal. Pretty drinkable stuff. SSSteve (2049), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Dec 1, 2007 murky brown with a thin film off-white head. aroma of roasted nuts. flavor has roasted nuts and burnt caramel, with maybe a little too much bittering hops that give it a tangy finish. highly carbonated. still a nice drink. LinusStick (1831), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 29, 2007 This is a decent dunkel. I always think a dunkel that can be confused with a porter is a good dunkel. Aroma was so so. Dark malt mostly. Pour was good. Dark brown with a little off white ring for a head. Taste was roasty and nice. Some coffee and dark malt with a toastiness. Not bad. bhensonb (4189), Woodland, California, USA Nov 28, 2007 Nice aroma of dark malt with hop. A mahogany color with a white head that quickly left. Medium body with creamy/fizzy carbonation. Flavor is slightly sour, with strongly roasted malt and some coffee. Something of a noble/hallertau hop presence. The finish is sweet malt, and the bitter is not fully balancing that. Still it is quite nice, and not that far off a porter in its way.
