Quake1028 (633), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 16, 2007 12oz bottle. Pours a ruby brown body with a 2 finger, creamy looking tan head. Very nice lacing as the head recedes, which takes a bit of time. Aromas of bread dough, citrus peels, stale coffee, floral hops. I get no sense of chocolate in the aroma. In fact, all of the aromas are somewhat muted. Disappointing. Flavors of bread dough, caramel, hops, citrus, dark malts and coffee. Again, no chocolate. Front of the tongue has a noticeable sourness to it, fades a bit as the beer is rolled to the back of the tongue and swallowed. Medium to heavy astringency on the tongue. Palate is light to medium bodied. Finish is a bit watery, bland, and on the abrupt side. Decent beer overall, but was expecting a bit more. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA Jul 16, 2007 From a 12 oz. bottle, a notched freshness date along the right side of label, sampled in a lager glass.
A clear reddish hued brown appearance with a small foamy off-white head that quickly settled into a fine lacing.
Aromas of weak mocha coffee, sour bready yeast, floral and lightly citric.
Moderate carbonation, only mildly crisp, a watery medium bodied mouthfeel, tastes of sourdough bread, thin dark malts, touches of caramel and milk chocolate, not much in the way of coffee-ish Munich malts, a very soft, watery citric hoppiness, once again, a watery yeast and malt finish.
I like Lakefront and I was expecting a mild, but rich tasting dark lager. but I was sadly disappointed, this was much better the few times I’ve had this on tap, the wateriness of the body and flavors really lowers the drinkability of this for me, just disappointing. I guess I should add that the bottling date was the second week of June, so this isn’t a freshness issue, maybe just a bottling one.
Strykzone (1458), Wood River, Illinois, USA Jul 16, 2007 Enjoyed during the Lakeside tour. It had a nice dark color with lots of malt, roastiness and chocolate aromas and flavors. Very nice beers as Dunkels tend to be. JAF737300 (791), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 4, 2007 Beer pours a solid brown with a decent head. The notes of malt and coffee are pronolunced as well as the maliter flavors of nuts and caramel on the palate. The beer drinks quite smooth! mcbackus (725), Merritt Island, Florida, USA Jun 29, 2007 bottle: pours a clean brown colour witha small whitish head. aroma is sweet and malty with some breadiness, and toffe nut. flavour is aslo sweet of caramel, nuts, and a small amount of hops in the finish. MullMan (1080), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA Jun 28, 2007 darkish copper colored body, golden at edges. foamy light tan pillowy head. aroma is sweet bready malt, grassiness, and a bit nutty. flavor is caramel malt, nutty, and dry grassy. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Jun 4, 2007 6/04/2007: Lakefront Eastside Dark is dark amber in color, clear, and has a lasting beige head/crown. The aroma is creamy, lightly roasted malts, vanilla, and some mild hops. The flavor is also creamy with some buttery caramel malt and some sort of green/leafy hop flavor that seems to jump out midway through. There is a mild to moderate bitterness (floral/tea/herbal-flavored) in the finish balance out the maltiness of the flavor. I am picking up some toasted malt in the finish as well. This beer has a medium body and a smooth and creamy texture. Not a bad beer, but I wouldn’t necessarily seek it out...
