Big, foamy mouthful with roasted cocoa flavors, caramel and bready malts. Other flavors of dark fruits and a nutty, sugary syrup. No hops to be found which created a sweet, easy going finish. jbye4334 (658), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 20, 2009 Brown color like cola, reddish in the light, fades quick. Dark lager aroma, brown sugar and cola, toasted mild coffee, cinnamon, licorice at the end. Flavor is spicy cinnamon (akin to Anchor Christmas beer) over malted cola; lightly roasted dark malts and molasses. Balanced dark/sugary flavors. Feels bubbly and milky; sticks to the roof of the mouth. A very solid dark beverage, with roasted malts and cola dominating. deyholla (634), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 21, 2009 Bottle. Poured black with a brown head. Aroma was chocolaty with a bit of malt undertone. Flavor was dark with rich malt notes. Cybercat (787), Georgia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 4, 2009 Aroma is strong, malty and yeasty with just a touch of cinnamon. It pours a somewhat transparent amber-brown with a thick and fairly persistent tan head - quite appetizing. Flavor is malty and hast a subtle undertone of molasses. Texture is smooth, a little fizzy and just a tad thin - this beer’s only weak point. Overall, a worthy brew. SB (317), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | May 22, 2009 From Bottle. D’s 6 packs and Dogs. Pours caramel brown. Nice foamy off-white head. Laced the entire glass as I drank. Aroma nutty, caramel, roasted malts. First sip was NOT what I expected. Bitter, sharp, and hoppy. After the first few sips like this my mouth adjusted. From there I could taste cocoa, caramel, roasted nuts and malts. Body was light. Watery almost. Finish was sharp and astringent. I am surprised that it is a dunkel. I would have never guessed. agillespie81 (195), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 1/5 | 14/20 | May 17, 2009 Dark brown color...almost opaque. Thin head, though with good lacing. Roasted malt aroma. Front has a bold maltiness for the style...crisp mouthfeel. Somewhat of a pungent hop bite develops in the back. Finish is dry, yet with a slight hop tang. Unique to find a dunkel with this amount of flavor, though the overly crisp profile masks a good deal of it...very drinkable however. WabashMan (801), Noblesville, Indiana, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 16, 2009 Decent, but not great. I’m surprised to learn that this is a dunkel, as it seemed more like a brown or even a traditional ale. Perhaps I should try it again, with Dunkel on my mind.
