JohnnyOS (646), Golden, Wisconsin, USA Dec 28, 2005 Pours a dark brown with reddish high-lights and a tan head that diminishes quickly. Aroma of toasted malts with decent carbonation and a toasty sweet flavor.
Medium bodied beer that’s definitely worth the purchase. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Nov 15, 2005 (12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with footbalm, thanks Eric!) This is one of the toastiest beers I can remember tasting. It’s sweet, malty, chocolaty and very nutty, with only a slight bitterness in the finish. The nose is equally as toasty as the flavor. Medium-full bodied, smooth and soft on the palate. Medium-dark brown and fully clear, but the light tan head is small and short lived, quickly fading to a miniscule ring. I’m glad this bottle was this tasty because my previous bottle of this was less impressive. Bockyhorsey (2487), Mesa, Arizona, USA Oct 29, 2005 A good coffee rast aroma. Brown body with off white head and decent carbination. Flavor is a coffee mouthful till the end a zesty fruit appears out of nowhere that has some sweet feel to it. Leaves a fruity aftertaste along with some coffee. heemer77 (4294), Savannah, Missouri, USA Oct 24, 2005 Dark brown and ruby body with lots of tiny carbonation bubbles. The head is light off white. The aroma is very light chocolate and some raisins. The taste has some light choclate milk. Wow, never tasted that in a dunkel before. There is also some tart cherries in here that may be lactose. The mouthfeel is rich and creamy. One of Lakefront’s more interesting offerings. drpimento (796), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA Jul 5, 2005 Poured with a big head, but comepletely disappeared. Dark brownish red color, nice complex nose: coffe, dark sweet fruits, toasted grain, cola. Similar with taste and with a little tang at the end that’s not entirely pleasant. I got this one in a beer of the month. I’ve had this before and it’s tasted much better. They have it at the Bodega downtown La Crosse. Gurst (338), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Jun 29, 2005 Pours like a Dr. Pepper, cola with ruby red, light fizzy head. The aroma is all about the malt, chocolate and some coffee. Cocoa powder is the strongest taste, but there is some burnt nuts and coffee in there too. The end has a few notes of alcohol and lactose. Aftertaste is very light, but some lingering coffee and oak flavors. Body is rich and creamy, but this is negated by high carbonation and a slightly buttery texture. dberger624 (1028), Phila, Pennsylvania, USA May 25, 2005 Bottled beer of the month. Average dunkel. Had a nice sweet malt taste to it. Nothing special. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA May 19, 2005 Updated: Jun 7, 2007Slightly tart, but also toasty aroma with a hint of fresh grains. The body is a muddy red/brown with a diminishing tan head. Fairly tangy, tart fore with some mild chocolate notes. Some sour citrus notes int he finish. Seems pretty off and my bottle was fresh.
