matta (1137), Tampa, Florida, USA Jan 25, 2005 WOW~!!!!!~???????
I am very surprised to see that this beer has such high ratings, I thought it sucked Donkey Balls! Amber brown body, small whispy tan head. An aroma and flavor of lemon, apple, caramel and toffee. Some toasty, bready malts but the body was thin and there just wasn’t anything even remotely exciting going on here, IMO! I was like a watery brown ale with a lemony bite in the finish. PattiA (49), Madison, New Hampshire, USA Jan 23, 2005 Nice coffee/malt aroma. Complex chocolate, coffee, caramel, malt and toffee flavor. Creamy taste with light carbonation. crazyvin (1246), New York, USA Jan 22, 2005 a light chocolate presence in both aroma and flavor. A smooth feel over all very easy to drink. It wasn’t really watered down, but seemed that way becasue of its smoothness. Brown in color not much of an off white head. nice. VTHopHead (895), Barre, Vermont, USA Jan 16, 2005 Bottle - Pours a dark reddish brown in color with very little carbonation or head. Aroma is not strong, but offers hints of malt and coffee. Flavor is malty and sweet, but has a "tang" to it. Hops are not evident in either the aroma or flavor. Finish is clean wih the same malty sweetness. An interesting beer, but nothing too remarkable about it. Nuffield (2718), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Jan 15, 2005 Very simple beer--malty, with a bit of chocolate and caramel popping through in moments of the aroma and flavor. Clinging head on a clear brown body. Normal, unremarkable palate. Plain and simple beer, though not unsatisfying. PattyBoy (302), North Liberty, Iowa, USA Jan 7, 2005 Pours dark reddish brown with a nice head. I didn’t think much of the aroma, kind of like moldy gym socks soaking in coffee. Fortunately the flavor was better. Flavor is roasted coffed, with hints of chocolate and a little fruitiness. The hop character is barely noticeable and I would have liked to have seen more. Cletus (5002), Connecticut, USA Jan 4, 2005 Pours a dark amber. Strong coffee aroma with sweet malty undertones. Small head, moderate carbonation. Flavor slightly tangy, one of the better dunkels I’ve had. Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Dec 29, 2004 Updated: Sep 29, 2005This pours a dark, earthy brown with a slight tan head. The aroma is full of toffee with hints of chocolate and roasted malt. Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation, it tastes of dark malts, toffee, perhaps some chocolate, and a dusting of hops. Crisp finish. Nice, refreshing drink.
