Dark brown in color. Burned flavor. Dark tan head. Light in body and mouth feel. I’m not too impressed with this one. Maybe it underwhelms me because it did not age well over the last decade.
RE-RATE: Just tried a bottle made in November 2004. Guess what? Not much better! Zero head and a dominant sour taste. mdi (573), Nebraska, USA

Nose is dark malts like munich & chocolate...medium bodied smooth, sweet...I think its well put together, its just too sweet. No hop character detected, some bitterness woulda been nice at least. Too grapey, too carbonated. Like flat Dr. Pepper. Not bad, but not good by any stretch of the imagination. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 27, 2004 Bottle pours black cherry with brownish hues, small milkish white head, with attractive lacing.   Heavy aroma of roasted grains and malts.   Up front I get a malty taste, slowly meandering on over to the roasted side with a grassy/grainy touch.   Slight milk sugar and coffee flavor on the finish.   Smooth on the palate, decent body, enjoyable...   Slight grain and hop tinge on the aftertaste.   Thanks goes out to DavidP for the trade!

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 6, 2004 Appearance: dark brownish hue, nearly opaque, with a fine, if short, creamy head. Aroma: soft, with flavors of cocoa and nuts, very malty.
On the palate, so smooth, and terrifically tasty. Body feels light, on the tongue, but the texture is quite good, and the flavor is unstoppable. Some minerally notes pop up in the middle, carrying through the finish, though they did not detract from any enjoyment of this delicious dunkel.
A thorough taste treat, that I’d happily consume again!
