COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Eastside Dark The rich, coffee-like aroma and flavor of this fine Dark Bavarian style lager beer is derived from a precise blending of three different specialty barley malts, chocolate, black patent, and Munich malt. Munich malt is also added to bring about the creamy body of this malty brew that has an original gravity of 1060. The most impressive aspect of this brew is the perfect balance between the specialty malts and coveted Mt. Hood hops. Unlike many other dark beers, East Side Dark doesn’t have the bitter aftertaste associated with it. Instead, your palate is greeted with the rich body and balanced flavor that only this beer can deliver.

This beer surprised me because it was such a dark lager. Very dark brown, a hint of roasted cocoa. Not very hoppy, but it is well-balanced. Somewhat thin-bodied, though, and not particularly striking.

A great dunkel. My favorite Lakefront beer to date. Great mix of malted Barley, spice and caramel quality. Great aroma and easy drinkability.

Good color and decent head on this beer. Aroma was average, but that could have been because I was fighting a cold at the time. Great taste with a great finish. Thought it could have been fuller bodied though.

Appealing Hallertauer (Mt. Hood) nose with some dark grain. Wonderful Dunkel flavor with excellent balance of hop spice, caramel richness and dark grain dryness. A bit sweeter than other examples of Munich Dark, but not at a level at which drinkability is compromised. I could drink this all day. Thanks, Howie.

Very smooth for this style. Nice tan head. Malt aroma and flavor enhanced by the creaminess of this beer. No bitter aftertaste which is impressive. Have had in the bottle and at the brewery, both are excellent. The brewery tour is worthwhile.

Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, caramel, some odd notes of creamed corn that no one else noted, so may have been an abnormality of my bottle. Great flavour - those of the aroma (minus the corn), unique vanilla finish.

UPDATED: FEB 27, 2003 Creamy tan head atop a clear brown brew. Light malty aroma. Light coffeeish flavors, very little bitterness. Makes a great session lager.

Brand new keg!! hints of licorice, dark chocolate and caramel. head disappeared too quickly, but it was probably just because it was too cold. Rich chestnut brown body. Lots of caramel, nice and sweet all the way through. Bordering molasses. Roasted barley notes on roof. great creamy smooth mouthfeel. grew more and more pleasant as it warmed. I’ll have to get back to this one for sure.

Dark brown-red in color, very tiny head. Aroma is of malt and coffee and slightly of alcohol. Flavor is disappointingly light initially, and turns malty and slightly bitter and finishes slightly acidic. Very watery, moderately carbonated mouthfeel.
