Optigon (535), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Apr 18, 2008 Pours dark brown with a light, foamy head. Flavor is fairly sweet with a malty body. Caramel, chocolate, and coffee are the profiles around. Aroma is sweet and roasty. Moderate mouth feel.
amish_caravan (175), Winona, Minnesota, USA Jul 10, 2008 scent of roast, barley, and a little banana. taste is of burntness and caramel. finish is a little bitter. not a bad beer, but would probably not purchase again. IlanMan (472), Winona, Minnesota, USA Jul 10, 2008 Pour is clear brown with a medium roasted malt character. I got a light hop character in the beginning that moved on to a more roasted malt finishing with a little caramel. Pretty decent dark lager. Smooth. Not worth a second buy. michael-pollack (1318), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 15, 2008 12oz. Bottle: Aroma of coffee, nuts, wood, malts, cardboard, and metal. Poured brown with a hint of amber in color with a small tan head that diminished. Cloudy. Sparkling. Full of medium-sized particles. Flavor of malts, chocolate, coffee, nuts, roasting, and a hint of hops. Medium body. Average to lively carbonation. Roasted malt finish. keoki182 (298), West Bend, Wisconsin, USA Jun 15, 2008 Eastside Dark is a most enjoyable dark lager. Reminds me of Leinie’s Creamy Dark, but Lakefront’s is far and away the more complete and sophisticated of the two. Good cocoa notes mix well with the various malts used. Aroma is slightly toasted nuts. Probably my favorite of Lakefront’s offerings, along with Fuel Cafe. BigBen2120 (542), Gardiner(52 miles from Allagash), Maine, USA Jun 7, 2008 12oz brown bottle from The Lighthouse in Manchester as part of this brewery’s sampler 8-pack. Pours dark brown with ruby-red highlights and a half inch of light tan head. Smells like chocolate, caramel, with just the slightest hint of hops. Tastes chocolatey and nutty with smoke and fruit notes on the finish. Full bodied with ample carbonation helps make this dunkel even more drinkable. Very tasty - a really solid dunkel.
