Commercial Description:
Eastside Dark The rich, coffee-like aroma and flavor ot this find Dark Bavarian style lager beer is derived from a precise blending of three different specialty barley malts, chocolate, black patent, and Munich malt. Munich malt is also added to bring about the creamy body of this malty brew that has an original gravity of 1060. The most impressive aspect of ths brew is the perfect balance between the specialty malts and coveted Mt. Hood hops. Unlike many other dark beers, East Side Dark doesn't have the bitter aftertaste associated with it. Instead, your palate is greeted with the rich body and balanced flavor that only this beer can deliver.

This wound up ever so slightly better than the last LF I had from sampler purchased in Boulder. This rating may not be "fair" to the brewery, but it serves as a reminder to me to see if ever I can have a fresh one, whether my mind will change and also as warning to those in Boulder that perhaps these are past their prime. Not bad, something good lingers beneath the surface, but I seriously doubt this was meant to be either tart or funky. Characteristics of the roast malt are hidden behind that. Sad.

Bottled. Pours a clear dark brown with a thin white head that disappears quickly. No lacing. Nice aroma with chocolate and perfume. Surprisingly nice flavour of malt, more chocolate, plus molassas & fruit and a clean finish. Very easy to drink.

Bottle... Poured a deep brownish/red with a thick, khaki head. Malted and toasty aroma. Big, foamy mouthful with roasted cocoa flavors, caramel and bready malts. Other flavors of dark fruits and a nutty, sugary syrup. No hops to be found which created a sweet, easy going finish.

Dark brown-red in color, very tiny head. Aroma is of malt and coffee and slightly of alcohol. Flavor is disappointingly light initially, and turns malty and slightly bitter and finishes slightly acidic. Very watery, moderately carbonated mouthfeel.

This beer surprised me because it was such a dark lager. Very dark brown, a hint of roasted cocoa. Not very hoppy, but it is well-balanced. Somewhat thin-bodied, though, and not particularly striking.

12oz bottle from the mix pack. Pours medium brown with a half inch off-white head. Roasty coffee aroma with some hop and lots of malt. Malty flavor with roasty coffee and hop finish.

12oz bottle. Smooth and creamy. This is a very enjoyable dark beer. Full of flavor but also quite drinkable. Very malt centered beer.
