COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Eastside Dark The rich, coffee-like aroma and flavor of this fine Dark Bavarian style lager beer is derived from a precise blending of three different specialty barley malts, chocolate, black patent, and Munich malt. Munich malt is also added to bring about the creamy body of this malty brew that has an original gravity of 1060. The most impressive aspect of this brew is the perfect balance between the specialty malts and coveted Mt. Hood hops. Unlike many other dark beers, East Side Dark doesn’t have the bitter aftertaste associated with it. Instead, your palate is greeted with the rich body and balanced flavor that only this beer can deliver.

Aroma is of coffee with some slight chocolate notes. Flavor is very similar but a slight watery palate that turned me off a bit.

Aroma is chocolate, biscuit, licorice. Appearance is dark brown w a hint of ruby red. Taste is chocolate, biscuit, bread and sweet malt forward. A bit of roast and just a tiny bit of hop bitterness. Palate ismedium+. Chocolate and biscuit linger. Overall a decent Dunkel. A bit rich, but still very drinkable. 8th beer I have had in a sampler, and all had serious under-carbonation issues... which didnt help any of them.

Very nice roasted aroma. Pours a reddish-brown, that appears ruby when held to a light. There’s just a ring of tan head to the beer, with visible carbonation in it. Smooth roasted flavor, with hints of coffee and cherries. Mild on the palate with a lingering roasted note. This is a nice solid beer, that is easily approachable. There’s nothing extraordinary about it, but it is solid.

Originally reviewed: 4/12/10. Poured into a pint glass. Pours a ruby-tinted dark brown with a large beige head on top. Great thick retention; left little lace. Scents of roasted malts, grapes, and wet clothes. That’s an interesting scent. This isn’t the most pleasing aroma I’ve come across. The body is thinner than I would like as well. Some mild carbonation on the tongue, but it’s just lacking in depth. Sweet brown sugar right away in flavor. Some toasted breads in the middle, and a slightly sour syrup-y back end. This was alright, but I’ve had much better of the style, and much better from the brewery.

Pours a dark brown color, with a tight head. Nose is malt and coffee, perhaps espresso. Taste is not emblazoned with flavor, chocolate notes and a bit of malt, and light. Drinkable brew, not offensive but a bit flat and lacking zest. Finish short and dry. Quaff score 5 /10

Pours brown with a light brown head and sweet aroma of malt and coffee notes. Taste is sweet and nutty, with flavors of roasted malt and chocolate. Drinkable and light but not much good flavor in this brew.

Lager glass. Dark brown with a reddish hue, light head that left quickly. Light aromas of malt and coffee grounds. Medium bodied with decent flavor. I like this as a dark lager.

Bottle pours a dark brown with a thin off white head. Scent is roasty and chocolate. Taste is caramel, chocolate and toasted malt.

Bottle. Light malt aromas of light bread, milk chocolate and mild coffee, light herbs for the hops, faint dough for the yeast, with hints of wood, root beer and steak sauce. Head is small, fizzy, light tan with no lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is clear dark brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and acidic, then finishes slightly acidic and lightly bitter. Palate is medium, watery with a lively carbonation and finishes lightly drying. Nothing big about this Dunkel, but it is mostly tasty and easy drinking.

Very dark, thin white head. The aroma is quite muted. Flavor is slight roast, caramel, slight hop in the finish. A bit thin with a touch of metallic, but OK.
