Bottle dated in that chalky yellow; 10/09/2013. Was kept refrigerated at least. Pours out a cloudy reddish brown with tan sticky head. Smell is malty sweet with hints of grapefruit. It's not bad. Tastes more of the same, has a nice citrus twang going with the sweet malt. Mouthfeel is medium heavyness. Overall a fairly drinkable beer but there are better options. ---Rated via my tastebuds and my brain.

Since amber-colored beers named after bikes are about as American you can get, I really shouldíve had Fixed Gear a long time ago. Ah well. All is mended in time. Fixed Gear pours red/burnt orange with a tan head. Flavors and aromatics of toffee, berry, and citrus (especially orange peel). Like a lot of Red IPAís / hopped-up Ambers, Fixed Gear has a creamy body and itís plenty lively with hops. Speaking of the hops, for a beer thatís not technically all that bitter (42 IBUís), Fixed Gear comes across as fairly assertive. Tasty stuff.

This beer is tough. Nice blend of hops, copper. Refreshing beer in the summer time but could also warm you up in the winter.

12 ounce bottle from Badger Spirits in Beloit, WI, sampled a bit above fridge temp from a Fitgerís pint glass. Red IPA eh? Thatís what it says on the bottle. I missed all the "colored" IPAs in my time away from here - Black of course has become commonplace, but I also see White a lot, and this Red. Did somebody brew a Rainbow IPA for marriage equality? A Purple IPA to commemorate the passing of a Prince? Anyway...it pours a murky medium amber-copper, with a chunky off-white head that leaves lovely patterned foam-flecks in the glass....the aroma is a pleasant, slightly pungent mix of wet earth, pine, and a touch of orange, fairly sweet...body is generally fairly sweet, a bit of tartness in midpalate, and tending towards a moderate bitterness in the end, juicy and lightly fruity throughout...thereís also just a hint of barnyard quality towards the finish (not necessarily appropriate here); the palate is a little rough, body is slightly watery, carbonation average. Not entirely sure what to make of this but on the whole Iím unenthused.

Poured from the bottle into a standard pint glass. the pour produced a cloudy caramel body withe a medium head of tan foam which diminished leaving minimal lacing. It has a good aroma of caramel and hops, though it diminishes somewhat throughout the tasting. The body is on the light side, which carries a strong hops flavor, modified ever so slightly by a touch of sweetness (which is helped along by slurping, causing aeration). The hops used in this ale are quite bitter, and leave a strong aftertaste on the sides of the tongue, overpowering the caramel finishing notes. Initially, I was impressed with this beerís look, and was hoping for a mellower IPA, something approaching an amber ale. This was not the case, and the lingering aftertaste was off-putting.

(Kiev 2016) 355 ml. bottle. BBF 05.10.16. Cough syrup amber with a small tanned head. Nose is pine resin & cough syrup, bit too heavy on the biscuit malt, light sugar. Taste is medium herbal hops, bit too much biscuit & toffee, tad too sweet, low bitterness, herbal pine, tad too sweet, lightly bland, low medicinal hops in the finish. Creamy toffee & biscuit body. Doesnít really pop but still a pleasant enough and easy beer, not bad, could have been more but not bad as it is.

Good beer that will get you drunk quick, only have to hold your breath for the swigs of the first 1-2 bottles, after that just rolls down your throat.
