Aroma is anise, coffee, chocolate, malt. Flavor is hoppy, smoky, malty, slightly sour. This beer smells and tastes slightly vinegary, which is a bit strange for a sweet stout. Perhaps my bottle was bad? TheBeerBaron (219), Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | May 31, 2008 Black colored potion, small tan head with no bubble action in the bottle. Caramel sweet aroma with raisin smell and a shot of the coffee thats advertised on the label. A bit of hops cleans up the sweet aroma. A complex palate, sweet malt and berry at first a steady strong flavor, and next is the bold coffee tast. An amount of hop is present to balance the sweetness but it stays below all the sweet malt. Palate is hearty but not thick. Overall an excellent stout and the best Lakefront beer in the variety pack that I purchased. I would take it home again. esjaygee (1519), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 14, 2008 Brown with a thin beige head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malts. Taste roasted malts, coffee with some mild sweetness on the back end that finishes a little nutty. Thin and watery with a weak coffee flavor. After having snake chaser, I was excited for this, kind of a letdown. Not enough coffee in there. sebletitje (1903), Tampa, Florida, USA

Pours black with a dark-brown foam.
Offers a light smell of coffee and roasted malts. I found it to be lacking this full coffee smell and flavour. Remidned me too much of the watered down coffee you get at yr local gas station. The beer remains very drinkable and enjoyable, but I was disappointed by the lack of punch it offered for a coffee stout.
Not a bad attempt, but nothing that could compare to other offerings. Terrapin, Dieu du Ciel, Bell’s and Founders come to mind. phishpond417 (1935), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | May 11, 2008 Poured a deep, thick black colour with plenty of carbonation. Head was huge and brownish. Aromas were strong of coffee (der), toffee, almonds and roasted malts. A little bit of chocolate on the nose, but taste was rich and creamy with plenty of strong black coffee flavor. topherh (899), Kearney, Missouri, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 8, 2008 12 oz bottle pours black with a thin beige head that quickly dissapates. Aroma of coffee and roasted malts. Coffee, roasted malt, and a little bitterness. Wulfstan (509), California, USA

It’s black with a huge light brown head that slowly shrinks to a thin ring. The aroma is wine, prunes, steak sauce, and a hint of onion. The taste is sweet, winey steak sauce and prunes, with vinegar. It is tart, a little sour. In the end there is some dark toast quality. It is oily in feel but thin and watery in body, which may seem odd. Ibrew2or3 (2724), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 4, 2008 12oz bottle pours near black with mocha head. The aroma is coffee beans, roasted malts and mild notes of burnt malts and oxidation. The taste is very much the same as the aroma with highly roasted malts mingling with coffee and with a faint note of oxidation. The coffee fades some to midway allowing more roasty malts to shine through. Coffee and burnt malts linger into the after taste. The flavors here don’t seem to play well together. It didn’t really work for me.
