Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA Feb 7, 2008 Bottle at Travis’ (El Duderino) Bday party. Pours with a dark brown body topped by a thick, tan head with good lacing. It’s slightly sweet and herbal...actually reminds me of Iced tea...wieerd. Medium bodied, watery and smooth. I remembered that I had a stout in my fridge that I had not rated. I poured it into a classic Guinness glass and recoiled in horror as I discovered that it was clear and dark brown. Not black at all, just a shade darker than Newcastle. Some coffee in the aroma and some lame sourness. The flavor is acidic with some coffee notes but not a lot. Very thin and fizzy. This is sort of butt. mgumby10 (1844), Jupiter, Florida, USA Jan 25, 2008 Pours a pitch black with pretty much no head. Not really a huge fan of the aroma. Really bland and uninteresting. Almost musty. I wasexpecting big coffee and got none at all. The flavor was just as disappointing. Definitely has some acidity to it, and the coffee was really non-existent either. Some mild roast and chocolate characters, but not much else. Below average brew. Says brewed with coffee, and if I didnt read the label, I would have guessed there was none at all. Zinister (1198), Houston, Texas, USA Jan 20, 2008 Foam Rangers January meeting. Very dark black with a very roasted coffee nose. Flavor is dark coffee and roasted malts with a big acidity to it. Rather lackluster. screigh (253), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Jan 17, 2008 So black I can’t see through it. Thin tan head that quickly went away. Aroma is nice...roasty. Dark sweet and coffee taste. Some acidic quality to it. RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA Jan 17, 2008 Opaque black wit ha quarter-inch tan head. Dark, sweet coffee flavor and aroma. Thin in body. Not bad, but middle-of-the-road as far as coffee stouts go. bb (2905), Martinez, California, USA Jan 17, 2008 Bottle. Blackish beer with a brown head. Coffee, roast aroma. Coffee, roasty flavor with a bit of hop bitterness. Coffee and roast lingers. Medium body. Straight forward and to the point. bag (103), Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 11, 2008 From bottle, poured dark brown with tan head. Somewhat transparent. Very nice chocolate, coffee aroma. That was easily the best part of this beer. From there it was all downhill. The flavor was very bland. The coffee taste might have been there, but I couldn’t tell. It didn’t taste awful... just watery with no real substance. It felt a little flat too. I’d get it again if I had too, but I’d definitely get others at the same price lever before getting this (such as Bell’s Java Stout).
