Oily peanut aroma, muted coffe notes underneath. Nice balance of caramel malt and roasted malt flavors, marred by a sour milk lactose taste which fights with the astringency and deeper roast character of the coffee. Some residual bitterness in the finish, but none of the astringency I would expect from a coffee containing stout. The mouthfeel is fairly light. Rastacouere (5552), Montréal, Quebec, Canada

It might not surprise you, but it smells like coffee.. dark charred grains, chocolate and a strong vegetal component. Slightly tart which doesn’t work well with the roastiness.. Nutty, oily and balsamic.. Rather dull and unappealing. Thin-medium body, watery, moderately high carbonation. Flavored stouts sure seem hard to master. beerguy101 (3862), Newark, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 6, 2005 Eclipse black color. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is roasty malts, coffee and vanilla. A medium to light bodied sweet stout. Malts are nice and roasty then chocolately. Touch of smoke and vanilla. Hops are slightly bitter. Touch of wine as well as a lot of coffee. Interesting beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. Dough77 (773), Aurora, Illinois, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 9/20 | May 4, 2005 Quite a weak coffee stout if I might say so myself. Had a lot of these recently and this really seems to be the least appealing. Pour was dark brown/black with small head. nose is full of coffee, some chocolate and malts. Flavor is a bit bitter, but mostly cheap coffee like and very un-interesting. Not a personal fav. SledgeJr (2960), Omaha, Nebraska, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 2, 2005 In the bottle. Black with a brown fluffy head. Smells like a chocolate milkshake. Coffee roasted flavor is the dominant taste. Bitterness seems to come from the coffee, not any discernable hops. Strong taste, medium body. OK beer. Goblincat (356), Westland, Michigan, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Apr 13, 2005 Pours very dark and comes off with a strong roasted coffee nose. Roasted chocolate and coffee in taste, quite refreshing with a touch of bitter in the finish. A very nice brew. It definately has a coffee flavor, but suprisingly very bitter (from the coffee, not the hops), and not in a good way. szkot (100), Minnesota, USA
