COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This unique stout combines the flavor of roasted malts and Milwaukee’s reknown FUEL CAFE coffee. The fine balance of mild hops, the gentle acidity of choice cofee and the sweetness of the barley makes this an unforgettable brew.

Looks alright - tan head, good lacing, opaque body - but smells and tastes like thin, weak coffee - watery mouthfeel - thin palate - I've been trying some good stouts lately, but this isn't one of them.

Very dark and thick beer. Very coffee flavored with a rich roasted aroma. Somewhat a one trick pony though, complexity is not this beer's forte. A good stout but not a great one.

Faint aroma of coffee. Black color, with no real head. Coffee taste, and very acidic, all the way through. Nothing ruins a beer for me like excessive acidity. To be fair, this beer had passed the recommended drink by date (3 months for all Lakefront brews), but my experience doesn't seem far off from other peoples. Maybe I'll give a newer bottle a try someday.

UPDATED: JUN 4, 2003 Very dark, roasted coffee aroma. Smooth drinking, but a tad bitter/sour. Not a bad stout, but somewhat thin-bodied. Black with a dark tan head that doesn't last long. If you like coffee in your beer, this one's for you.

Opaque brown. Initially has a thick brown head but it diminishes quickly. Didn’t have the big coffee aroma I was expecting. Some off-notes of I-don’t-know-what are strongly appearant. Not good. Not even interesting.

As black as night with a chocolate colored head. Roasted flavors with toffee, and malt. I think it detected some fruit elements in here. A solid stout all the way.

Nice big head on a pitch black, very still stout. The nose didn’t have much coffee to it, but it was all over the palate. My notes read, "no hops to even this baby out". Even so, this is a nice little stout from a brewery that I will take a better look at soon.

Large-bubbled, quickly fading tan head sat on top of a 10w-30 darkness. Chocolatey-coffee nose. Rather light and watery texture. Finishes with some roasted flavors and quite a bit of a coffee flavor, of course. I love black coffee, but I thought this one was lacking some coffee-ish aromatics. At any rate, it definitely wasn’t bad. My only major qualm was it’s lack of texture. I might also like to see some more hops, but that’s just a personal preference.

obsidian pour; the head lofted like a toasted marshmallow does just before it bursts into flames. but then, like an airbag, the head just as quickly deflated leaving a thin raft of big soda bubbles on the surface which resembled the indonesian archepelego. (java was especially well defined.) medium nose of burnt cork or tinny fire-pit cowboy coffee pot; some fig or plum fruity elements step up to croak a few bars of "rogue shakespeare stout" but then forget the words and can’t hit the high notes. flavor ingratiates itself however, and the smooth sweetness is generally satisfying: like a good stout with a half cup of day old truck stop coffee poured in--be glad they didn’t pour orange juice in.

The pour was the most exciting aspect of this beer. Black liquid atop Imperial stout brown colored foam. Strong coffee bean aroma, charcoal, paper, and black/burnt malt. This is what I love/expect from this style. First sip was a disappointment. Watery palate and highly acidic. Lively carbonation/airish body cuts through any potential thickness. Complexity is seriously lacking. Coffee/burnt malts dominate, yet are still very subtle. Blackened malt and phenolin notes round this brew to a watery/coffee finish. A thorough disappointment of what should have been a gem of a beer.
