3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUL 12, 2005 This pours a deep, dark brown, almost black, with a thin, quickly fading brown head. The aroma is of roasted coffee and a touch of bitter chocolate. It’s surprizingly carbonated for a stout. The taste is of coffee with some bitterness. It’s got a dry, bitter coffee finish. Not bad, but nothing special.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Black ruby tinged body, with a small khaki head. Mild roastiness and some milk chocolate undertones in the aroma. Dry coffee bitterness and subtle notes of moka in the flavour. Not enough beer to support the coffee. Not for me. Thanks for sharing Doug.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours like your classic stout. Rich black decent, but quickly fading head. Very rich and bitter for a sweet. Something watery in the aftertaste ruins the overall effect, but it’s still very decent.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Big coffee aroma. Big coffee taste. But that may be it. Some nice roastedness in the finish and aftertaste though. Mouthfeel is ok. A little one diminsional on the whole coffee thing.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
sweet stout? not so sure. intensely roasty and coffee-like aroma, it really smells like someone poured a shot of espresso into my normal stout. slightly more balanced than bell’s java stout, but still not very balanced. interesting, fun to drink, but not spectacular.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Small, short lasting head. Pleasant flavor, slightly bitter. The coffee is there, almost as an additive and not part of the brew. Lacked the robust body I anticipated in a stout.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 21, 2004 Pours a dark black/brown with a small milk-choclate/fluffy head. Aroma is mostly coffee with a hint of maltiness. Flavor is very full, and mostly a bitter coffee taste. Malt balances the flavor. Very tasty, as I am a coffee lover as well! Great beverage from two great brewers.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Deep brown with fluffy head. Mollasses, tar, lightly vegetal aroma, with a hint of coffee. Heavy coffee flavor, (where was the aroma???) Some good dark malt flavors, very little roast character. Sweet coffee finish. Quite carbonated and a bit lacking in body. Decent, but unremarkable.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark as night with minimal head. Coffee, molasses, chocolate, and more on the nose. Medium mouthfeel with nice acidity and lingering finish. Flavors of carmel, coffee, chocolate, and cherry(?). Nice well balanced beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: JAN 20, 2009 Rerate Coffee aroma is a bit more prominent this time around. Original 3.2 Coffee like appearance, dark black, thin, but persistent mocha colored head. Funky, phenolic aroma upon opening but mellows out to a clean light chocolate aroma; bit of sulfur in there as well. Flavor has some coffee notes of course with wee bits of chocolate. Is a tad too carbonated and thin for a stout. Fades in the end.
