Optigon (546), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Apr 22, 2008 Pours black with a fine, tan head. Aroma is of stale coffee and chocolate. Flavor is stale coffee and a light-for-style mouthfeel. eh.
fredandboboflo (440), East Setauket, New York, USA Aug 17, 2008 Bottle. Aroma of grape and bittersweet coffee. Flavor of sweet malt with some fruitiness and nuttiness. Nothing overwhelming, but not a bad beer. swoopjones (1092), Buffalo, New York, USA Aug 17, 2008 bottle shared with Rudolf, mabel, jerc & frylock. Pours a black medium to thinner body with khaki head. Aroma was roasted malts, coffee. Taste was peppery, almost jalapeno juice. Could of been the prevoius Smoked porter but didnt get that flavor. Couldnt get the pepper thing off my palate. Not verry good ChainGangGuy (1511), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Aug 16, 2008 Rumor has this may be an older bottle, but when pressed as to the exact date, my friend politely told me to "mind my own business."
Appearance: Pours a black body with a thin, wispy, beige head.
Smell: Malty nose smelling primarily of chocolate, with lesser notes of roast, nuts, and fruit.
Taste: Chocolate-covered coffee beans with a hint of licorice, almonds, and even prunes. Tiny, tiny blip of acidity. Mild hops with a small tingle of bitterness. Roasty, chocolatey finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Slightly creamy mouthfeel.
Drinkability: Decent enough! Definitely easy drinking, particularly with the restrained ABV. BlackDonald (1040), North Carolina, USA Aug 15, 2008 Pours a dark brown depth into the glass that pushes the lines of blackness, with a quickly receding off white almost tan head. Not as roasty in the nose as I was expecting, a hint of dry earthiness and roasted coffee beans, with a very light and very drinkable, light and very weak, with more of a nuttiness and not a lot of coffee flavors as I was expecting. Acrid and dry, with sweet hazelnut and almond flavors throughout. Back to the drawing board for this one. LilBeerDoctor (442), East Setauket, New York, USA Aug 15, 2008 Bottle. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of coffee, nuts, sweet malt. Flavor of sweet roasted malt and nuts. Extremely sweet! Not much coffee though. Weakish palate. This wasn’t terrible but I won’t be having it again.
