2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours dark brown with a very small tan head. Very little carbonation. Sweet, coffee flavor a little sour, burnt aftertaste. Drinkable, not bad, but not great.

It’s not the best looking stout I’ve ever had as it lacks that fulsome head my learned off-sider kiwianer had on his. However, it is a beautiful shade of tawny with ruby notes and so looks similar to port. The aroma is coffee all over. It’s difficult to achieve subtlety with such a strong component, but there are also notes of plum and cherry tobacco. The flavour reflects this without the coffee being utterly overpowering. There’s carbonation there that keeps things ticking along. For what is designated as a sweet stout, it isn’t overly sweet at all which suits me down to the ground. A likable fellow this one.

The head is robust, the body black. It smells darkmalty, coffee, bit mild, bit roasty. The taste is darkmalty, roasty, mild aroma coffee, OK

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours a deep brown with a foamy brown head. Smells of coffee, chocolate and a bit of malt. Big dark-roasted coffee taste that overpowers everything else. Very little bitterness. Slightly sweet. Medium mouth, but not very oily. Coffee stouts have to strike a good balance to be noteworthy. This one is missing the stout.

I love coffee. I love beer. Lakefront made a highly drinkable beer that is both beer AND coffee!? Its a good beer, not the best coffee stout I have ever had, but a great effort. Really give it a try.

From notes: Poured hazy cola-brown with a 1-finger tan head. Pleasant aroma of roasted coffee. Full body, lightly oily. Flavor of black coffee, with a light burnt note in the finish.

Tasty coffee stout. Nice foamy head, dark color, and enjoyable coffee flavor. Not too bitter and good combination with sweet taste.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Easily one of the strongest coffee flavored brews I’ve tasted within memory. Possibly a bit bitter for those who drink their morning coffee with cream and sugar, but I enjoyed the true coffee notes. A beer for the true coffee lover!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured from 12 ounce bottle from Beer Of The (Every Other) Month Club, tasted on January 11, 2013. Opaque brown hue, small brown head, nice firm aroma of coffee (mostly) and malt, initial sweet mouthfeel followed by coffee and roasted malt, some astringency. A little light for a stout but enjoyable.

An enjoyable brew that is both full of flavor and well balanced. Has the same ’laid-back’ quality I have experienced with some of their other beers too - which is a good thing (for a change).
