JAF737300 (791), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 8, 2007 Bought this at the brewery. It had nice notes of honey and citrus on the nose after pourin deep brown. On the palate it seemed heavy with some notes of cloves, corriander, and nutmeg. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA May 27, 2007 Picked up single 12-oz bottle from Bob’s McFarland Liquors in McFarland, WI. Pours a hazy coppery amber brown brew with a thick, fizzy off white head with slow dissolving. Aroma of orange, Christmas cloves, mincemeat raisins, some gingerbread, and nutmeg. Taste is heavy body, honey sweet, floral hops and cinnamon apples. Ooph, it’s a strong bugger. Finish is sweet and a nice gingerbread aftertaste. A very good Christmas brew. DrnkMcDermott (1832), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA May 13, 2007 Bottle dated Nov. 06. With this kind of alcohol, I’d hope it can stand being tasted at 6 months old. Nice deep coppery red that doesn’t want to admit much light, Smell does show a little honey and wassail spice. Taste is richly sweet. Honey is there, as is a bit of orange and more spices. Strong warming alcohol, some cinnamon, nutmeg, maybe some ginger, but not as strong as would be in a pumpklin pie beer, thanks. Also has hints of Vernor’s soda, or the spicy 7-up Gold of 20 years ago. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.A good nightcap to a long day. Being a Lakefront beer I didn’t want to let it sit too long as my previous samples showed their age quickly, but this one may indeed cellar well. jsquire (2087), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Mar 28, 2007 Deep murky amber out of the bottle with a quickly dissipating off white head. Aroma is initially very hot with cloves and cinnamon. This beer has lots of honey sweetness and a syrupy mouthfeel. Almost too much honey. The alcohol is very prevelant in the finish. Cinnamon, clove, maybe some ginger and nutmeg, with orange peel and apple fruitiness. This beer made me sneeze for some reason. I usually enjoy spiced beers, but this seems too hot. Very carbonated on the tongue. Not really well balanced. It is a really big spiced beer. rocbyter (902), Waterbury, Connecticut, USA Mar 12, 2007 Updated: Mar 13, 2007Strong aroma of cinnamon and cloves. Faint scents of banana. Brown appearance with a small white head. Mellow start with a cinnamon and clove finish. TURDFERGUSON (1594), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Feb 19, 2007 Bonus bottle from Hopscotch. Thanks Eric! Poured a big amber with a huge, 2 inch thick gargantuan off white head. that shows no sign of fading soon. Aroma is very sweet ( i can smell it from a foot away) with lot of spices, honey, nutmeg. Head hasnt moved a 1/4 of an inch. Tastes almost like a cold, alcoholic mulled cider with spices, though the high abv is not particularly noticeable. I usually hate this style. This is a well made spiced beer, bit still, I just dont dig it. A little overcarbonated and a bit of an icky palate. Nephilium (541), Ohio, USA Jan 28, 2007 Received via a work beer exchange. This poured with a big head, after opening, it almost foamed out of the bottle. The aroma is spicy and pungent. In appearance, there were large floating bits, about a quarter of an inch large in the beer. They appear to be chunks of yeast, and the same was reported by someone else in the exchange. The taste is a strong sweet flavor, with a hint of cinnamon. Not amongst my favorites. hopdog (5535), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 20, 2007 12oz bottle acquired in trade with CaptainCougar (thanks!). Poured a deep and muddy mahogany color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of cinnamon, nutmeg, honeycomb, and some citrus. Kinda reminded me of one of those Potpourri bags. Tastes of cinnamon, nutmeg, honey, brown sugar, and citrus. On the sweeter side. Some alcohol in the finish.
