Pure Milwaukee Genius Series 4: Black IPA - We took all the stuff people love about IPA’s and gave this beer plenty of crystal and dark roasted malts. This dark coffee-colored beer pours a rocky, light tan head that leaves plenty of lacing on the glass. the hoppy pine and floral aromas ready your palate for an immediate bitterness. Instead, the sweet, caramely crystal malts blitz through, followed immediately by a sharp piney flavor from the Zeus and Cascade hops. The smooth body leaves a long lasting hoppy finish.

Tap at the Blind Tiger, Manhattan, 20/05/13. Dark mahogony brown with a thin beige head. Nose is hops, pine, mineral notes, grapefruit, orange pth, juicy tropicals. Taste comprises berry fruits, sugar, hops, pine, bitter grapefruit. Medium bodied with fine carbonation, hop bitterness in the finish. A solid Black IPA.

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours really dark brown with a 3 finger creamy/foamy light tan head. Big pine aroma. Med+ body. There’s pine and perfumey/floral with the flavor - so much that I’m almost losing the darkish malt. I’d say this is the hoppiest, not necessarily the bitterest, "black IPA" I can recall. As the foam goes down, the floral hits the nose. It is extremely hoppy in a sort of Imperial English way. Not a NW way. Very good experience here. Brilliant.

650ml bomber. It pours a dark brown with a fluffy off-white/tan head that leaves a lot of lacing. Smell is hoppy and chocoaltey. The hops are real good. The flavor is a bit lacking. It wants to be hoppy and roasty and malty at the same time but it is an off-balance. The mouthfeel is a bit thin.
