On draught at the Sugar Maple tavern in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Pours a clear dark brown colored brew with a thin beige head that quickly dissipates to a cream film top and white ring. Aroma of semi-sweet caramel malt, a hint of fruit and a touch of chocolate. Taste is light bodied, soft carbonation with flavors of roasted dark malt, floral hops, a hint of toffee and some dark pitted dried fruits. Finish is a tad watery, crisp with a short lived caramel malt aftertaste. A summer session doppelbock? Okay, I’ll accept that.

Draft at Sugar Maple. Brown-red-black, steady beige head. Graham cracker and chocolate aroma, pretty mild. Simplified lowest common denominator Doppelbock. Odd fruity alcohol tones, chemical doughy chocolate. Another terrible offering from Lakefront. The beer really never comes together. Soapy, too light bodied. Sessionable at best. Sub-par.

On tap at Sugar Maple. Clear dark mahogany with a thin tan head. Aroma is very oaty indeed with malt, toffee, fruit and caramel. Taste has a nice oats presence, something different, which is good. Very malty with no hop presence and some toffee, darker fruit and mild alcohol. Not bad for Lakefront-Leinenkugel, I just wish it didn’t sound like it was made by Horny Goat.
