COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
My Turn Series #1: Dan brewed a Baltic Porter. Expect this thing to be dark and robust with a malty sweetness. A touch hoppier than the typical porter, the medium bitterness balance the malts and a deep chocolate or coffee aroma stops just short of burnt. If we did it right, this one oughta be one big, full-bodied beer.

Bottle. Black pour with thick head and lots of lacing. Coffee and malty aroma. ’N bietjie chocolote in the flavour, with more malt and some esteriness. Finish is roast malt.

Bottle:   Pours black, deep cola edges, thin whispy light beige head, falls quickly, little lacing.   Soft roast on the nose, a bit of cold coffee, fig, and dark chocolate.   All parts subtle, but they are there.   Perhaps a bit of smoke as well.   Stale figgy flavors, some dark pitted fruit, light roastiness, smidgen of cold coffee and dark chocolate.   Not real robust, body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Somewhat of a pruny pale roasty finish.   Needs to be more robust.

Black with a large brown head that patiently fades leaving lace in its wake. Aroma of dark roasted malts, toffee, molasses, mild chocolate and a hint of nuts. Taste of chocolate, molasses, alcohol, dark roasted malts, sugar, dark fruits and a touch of nuts. Finishes up a touch dry. Pretty solid effort.

A pretty solid beer. I think this series could yield some fantatic beer if they keep this up.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 5/16/12

Aroma: The aroma is rather roasty, some dry coffee beans, caramel, and other malts
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a light brown head, and light-medium lace
Flavor: Tastes similar to the nose, headlined by the roasted malts and a light hoppy presence
Palate: The body isn’t light, but it is lightish for the style, and a smoothish, dry finish
Overall Impression: This isn’t a bad Baltic Porter, but it isn’t great either. Perhaps it is a little one dimensional with the roasted malts, but that is not a huge criticism. I don’t have a ton of interesting stuff to say about it, but it was a solid effort by Lakefront, and I’m interested in trying more beers from this "My Turn" series.

Pour out of 22 oz bottle, dark black pour with nice creamy tan head, dissipates mostly but lasts. Aroma brings notes of roast, chocolate, dark fruits, some pine and slight green apple notes, some slight off creamy note, hints of espresso as well. Taste is sweet chocolate, caramel, hints of espresso, touch of dark fruits. Pretty nice, but some slightly off note in the aroma.

okay, since my name is Dan I was drawn, but I had been thinking about Baltic porters, & this had a nice price. aromas--cocoa, wood chips, dark roast, alcohol, wheat toast. flavors--dark chocolate, milk chocolate, licorice. can’t see through dark brown with a creamy dark tan head. neither too thin or too thick.

22oz bottle: Pours a mostly opaque black with a spotty-lacing beige head. Has a rich sweet dark caramel nose with some light roast, chocolate and plum notes. Starts with good fullness and chewy sweet dark malt with some dark fruity complexity and mild piny hop flavor and bitter balance. Finishes slightly drier, but still semi-sweet, with good dark chocolate character. True to style and quite enjoyable.

Pours very dark, almost black. Very little head. Aroma of anis or licorice. Taste is rich with malt and coffee, a touch of hops, almost a little burnt. Notes of hops in there too. An interesting combination of flavors, thumbs up on this one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
