3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
651 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, well retained, white head, over a clear gold (SRM 5) body.......nose is cereal, light smoke, light pear.....taste is pils malts, light smoke, hints of sweetness, finishing with hints of smokey bitterness.....mouth feel light, carbonation adds a light acidic crispness. This is a nicely balanced, lightly smoked, clean, crisp beer. The smoke was done such that, it is only reminiscent of a Rauchbier. The result is a slight smokey complexity on a Helles. 3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber, "manager’s special" at Lemon Tree. I’m guessing there was just one bottling, so this is time to drink. Golden to brassy pils color in the glass with a steady stream of fizz. Smoke is prominent but not overwhelming in the nose, like a neighbor’s grill smoking something. Smoke is also in the taste, but it still brings some nice light pilsner malts with matching German hops through. I can only compare this to the Schlenkerla helles, which I usually don;t see until it’s been shipped and shelved much longer. Smoke might turn a little cheesy toward the end, but this is still excellent.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
bottle. lightly hazed amber orange body with a small white head, short retention, no lacing, light effervescence. mild nose of clover honey malt, no hop aroma, smoked malt comes across as honey-glazed smoked ham with a bit of a roasted cashew smell. some smells and gulps there are traces of grape-flavored gum, powder and all. may be some esters, may just be the malt. sweet taste, medium body, low, round, full carbonation, but the malt drags on the tongue a little bit; a little harsh and a little too sludgy, something I see more often in American lagers than German. faint lingering traces of honey and ham in the finish turn to buttered corn rice cakes and twangy sweet-n-low. thankfully it has a clean profile, no major fermentation flaws, only a small bit of flint and charcoal but that could be from the smoked malt, and it’s very faint. as a whole it just doesn’t integrate well or create depth or intrigue. it’s a decent beer, just a simple one.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bomber brought back from Argonaut Liquor. Pours a hazy pale yellow with a small white head. Aroma has very timid smoke with a more prominent vegetable-lager character. This was obviously geared to be a subtle rauchbier. The flavor has corn notes and papery hops with a wimpy smokey background, which is a shame because the smoke itself is very nice: a straight up bacon quality. It could cover up some of the sugary corn flavor if it were more potent. All in all, I liked it fairly well. Just needs more smoke.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Orange-tinted gold with an average white head. Aroma is equal biscuity malt and light smoke. Clean cereal malt flavours allow the rather subtle meaty smoke character to shine without overpowering. Nicely nuanced, tasty.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
I am getting ready for Bamberg in a few weeks. Copper color and clear. Rauchbier is a style I can’t pass up, and this Lakefront beer delivers. Smoke aroma up front. Semi sweet malt flavor with more smoke and wood. Malt finish.
