Inspired by a homebrew, Chris made a maple vanilla doppelbock. This one pours dark caramel with a creamy head. Malty and full-bodied, sweet biscuit, maple, and mild vanilla aromas eminate from the glass. Roasty malt and maple syrup flavors arrive first, with vanilla and mild lager yeast ester fruitness eventually making a showing. If you like flavor, this one’s got it in spades. This mapley doppelbock will pair well with a roasted duck or goose. Try substituting the usual sour ale with some of Chris’ beer in a Belgian carbonade flamande. Or, just enjoy with a chunk of smoked swiss, and maple-candied walnuts.

Bomber. Very pronounced maple aroma with notes of vanilla. Pours copper colored with a thin tan head and not much lacing. Taste is toasted malt to start followed by sweet make syrup and some vanilla. Finishes dry with a bit of a bitterness. Pretty good.

Pours a slightly hazy chestnut with a fairly icky an head. Malty aroma has notes of maple and vanilla - no surprise there. Flavor is quite sweet, almost a bit too sweet, vanilla and maple syrup notes plus a toasted malt undertone. Texture is thick and syrupy, not too fizzy. Fine ONI a small dose - don’t believe I could take a whole bomber at once. Take your turn.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 11/29/13

Aroma: The nose is maple and vanilla over coffee, chocolate, and some caramel as well
Appearance: This beer pours a caramel-orange color, with a small off-white head and mild lace
Flavor: The flavor is quite sweet, with everything the nose promises, very little balance
Palate: It is medium bodied, has an average carbonation, and a fairly lengthy, sticky finish
Overall Impression: This one is pretty interesting. It is pretty tasty, but also very sweet. I enjoyed it well enough, but it is a little too much unbalanced sweetness.

Orange-ish color; no head or lace. A bit boozy. Notes of caramel & vanilla, reminds me of an English Barleywine but not quite as well polished. Decent.

22 oz bomber from Evergreen Discount. Brown/amber and pretty clear with a small, dissipating tan head. Sweet aroma of maple syrup, caramel malts, brown sugar, vanilla, banana bread and light chocolate. Similar flavor with light fruity esters. Medium body with a slick, oily feel and light carbonation. Lingering, sweet finish.

Bottle. Walnut and chocolate malt aroma. Orange-brown with moderate head. Very sweet maple syrup, walnut, and toffee malt flavor. Nice body. Pretty good but on the sweet side.

Bottle. Sweet bready caramel malt and alcohol aroma, very light maple and vanilla. Clear deep copper with a large beige head. Sugary bready malt, wood, and alcohol flavor. Medium body, average carbonation. Really not much maple character at all, and much too sweet for my personal taste.
