Categorizing the beer John made is a tough one. He describes it as a dark, sweet beer with tart cherries. He’s been trying to get this thing made for over 20 years, and now he gets to put his name on it. Well done John, you’ve done your name proud.

Bomber poured a hazy reddish brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of caramel, cherry and light cocoa. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of cherry, cocoa and caramel with a crisp dry lingering cherry finish.

Bomber. Poured clear ruby red with a well-retained toasted beige head. The aroma picked up sweeter chocolate and biscuity malts with dank cherry and slight aspartame accents.. nice and earthy on the back of the nose. The flavor found toasted biscuits, nutty notes, and cocoa at the core, with sweetened and tart cherries surrounding.. more acidic and near-refreshing on the finish, save for a little too many sugars back there. Light-medium bodied with fairly filling carbonation.. moved well through the palate, and I enjoyed the acidity on the back.

22oz bomber. Deep brown-red body, almost black in middle, but translucent edges. It works on some levels. The chocolate and cherries sweetness merge together well. The cherry begins to shine after a few sips, bringing you into Door County. Medium to full bodied, very easy going and sessionable. Not really any bitterness at all, this is all mellow, doughy malt with a cherry sweetness. Would be nice if they made this in sixpacks.

Dark brown with a dissipating tan head. Aromas of dark roasted malt and hints of dark cherries. A Schwartz aroma with a touch of fruit. Sweeter flavors with sugary roasted malt, dark cherries, dark chocolate and hints of tart apples. Cherries come out more as it warms. 2/14

651 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, well retained, light beige head, with some lacing, over a clear, reddish brown (SRM 25) body.....nose is sour cherry from the fruit, cocoa and chocolate hints from the roasted malts, no coffee, minimal hops, balance to the fruit and malts.....taste is slightly sweet with heavy cherry from the fruit, sourness of a pie cherry, light cocoa with almost chocolate from the roasted malts, no hops, balance to the fruit and malt....mouth feel, medium body, no alcohol, slight carbonation and light acid on the finish. The fruit is apparent, but not utterly dominant, as so often happens in this style. The underlying beer is quite nice and could easily stand alone. BJCP 8/3/15/4/7

Pours to a deep brown body with a tall, thick, extremely lively creamy tan head. The aroma is kind of like a dunkel. Lots of brown malts with some lagery yeast and subtle cherry. The flavor has that dry lager quality. Almost like a European strong lager in flavor. Subtle tart cherry and lager yeasts. Up front it seemed lightly metallic, but that passed rather quickly and was likely due to the lagered brown malts. Creamy and thick but not sticky. Leaves the mouth watering.

Bottle - Deep cola color with ruby highlights and a light pinkish-tan head. Nose is chocolate, 7-grain bread, black cherry, and a little yeastiness. Taste is much of the same, grainy chocolatey malt, tart black cherry in the background, and a bitter, cocoa finish. Medium sweetness. Creamy in the mouth, though a bit on the thinner side. Wow. Gets better as it warms, and is tasty as hell as a dessert. Really liked this one.

Poured from 22oz bomber, pours a clear dark brown red with an off white head and some lacing, aroma is sweet with lots of sweet malt and sweet grain, a little bit of fruit comes through too, flavor has a nice smooth front end with a tartness of cherries in the finish, kind of sour but smooth at the same time, I’m surprised by some of the lower ratings actually, this stuff is solid.

Bomber from Woodman’s in Waukesha. Pours a very dark brownish red with a tannish-orange head leaving some spots of lace. Aroma has chocolate and cherries and caramel. Taste is of black cherry. And black cherry. A tart, lightly sweet black cherry. Then, down through the glass, some caramelly malts and hints of chocolate. Light to medium bodied, lowly carbonated. Finishes sweetly fruity and tart, and quite short. Sure, tasty enough, and the most distinctly black cherry flavor had in a brew. Not much body. Would love to try the 25th anniv impy stout blended with this for a lot of body underneath the top black cherry flavor.
