Commercial Description:
An all-sorghum beer. New Grist, a beer for Celiacs brewed from sorghum and gluten-free yeast grown on molasses. New Grist is the first “official” gluten free beer in the U.S., although it cannot technically be called “gluten-free” until established governmental guidelines are determined for all products claiming “gluten-free” status. In the interim, this Celiac-safe beer can be called “barley-free,” and is a welcome product to those who need to live on restricted diets due to intolerance to gluten, a protein found in common brewing grains such as barley, wheat, rye, oats, spelt, kamut and triticale.

bottle. gold color. little to no head. floral, spice and grass aroma. interesting smell. taste of cream and butter then a quick kinda offish finish. not as bad as I would’ve thought given the avg rating.

This is a strange beer. Has a bad home brew taste. Yellow with not much head. sweet with a terrible after taste.

12oz bottle. Straw yellow with quickly diminishing head. Strange aroma, sorghum I presume mixed with apple. I’m going to guess that’s sorghum I’m tasting too along with apples. A little dry. Ho-hum but at least I gave it a shot.

Bottle (thanks Amit). Sweetish aroma with some fruitiness, adjuncts (well, duh) and a bit of honey. Sweetish grainy and a tad metallic flavor with quite a lot of carbonation and a very light bitter finish with hints of hops. Pretty lousy, but if I couldn’t drink any real beer I could’ve found it drinkable.

12oz bottle. Poured a medium golden / yellow color with an averaged sized head. Some green apples and just kind of funky. Some caramel in the tastes. This one was kinda weird and couldn’t really nail it down. Light sour finish.

Bleh, nothing much here but a cool looking bottle (IMO). Very odd taste... a bit sour, medicinal, acidic. Just not my style. Pours a golden color with little head.

The color was light golden. The head was thin, fizzy, and white. The aroma was powder, fingernail polish remover, and corn. The flavor was corn. The palate was carbonated and heavy. The finish was abrupt.

Bottle - Light colored, minimal quickly dissipating head, no lacing. Wierd aroma. I’ve been trying for a day to figure out what the smell reminds me of, but what ever it is it isn’t good. No mouthfeel at all. Its tolerable if you can get past the freeky aroma. Got this bottle from a friend of mine who has Celiacs. I think its fantastic that this brewery brews a beer for those that can’t tolerate gluten, but for the rest of us, maybe we should just stay away from this one.
