Commercial Description:
An all-sorghum beer. New Grist, a beer for Celiacs brewed from sorghum and gluten-free yeast grown on molasses. New Grist is the first “official” gluten free beer in the U.S., although it cannot technically be called “gluten-free” until established governmental guidelines are determined for all products claiming “gluten-free” status. In the interim, this Celiac-safe beer can be called “barley-free,” and is a welcome product to those who need to live on restricted diets due to intolerance to gluten, a protein found in common brewing grains such as barley, wheat, rye, oats, spelt, kamut and triticale.

Bottle pours a very pale yellow with minimal head that quickly disappears. Interesting aroma almost smells like a cider. Taste reminds me of a cider too. Very sweet flavor, doesn’t taste anything like beer to me though. I think people that don’t normally like beer would enjoy this, but beer drinkers would pass on this one.

pours light greenish yellow with no head, feels weak and watery, some hints of old fruit or diluted juice, weird taste, couldn’t finish.

Pours an extremely light transparent yellow with a one finger fizzy white had. This tastes awful. It doesnt feel right. Tastes kind of sharp and rotten. Rotten watermelon for sure. None of the flavors i’m used to/like.

Bottle: Pale yellow gusher with no head and light carbonation. Nose of sharp....something and hop. Acidic, metallic and rusty with a bit of fruit. Weird and not normal, not 100% offensive, just mostly so. Don’t think I like it.

clear gold with a large foamy white head. awful aroma of of vodka, wine, alcohol, sourness, tequila. this is just horrendous. sour, rotten flavors. plastic comes to mind. this is a close tie with miller chill for my worst beer ever. too bad, i really like lakefront products.

Aroma of fruit on a golden clear fizzy pour. Flavor was sweet, with a light palate. Reminds me of apple juice, with a bit of a kick.

Poured clear gold with a very thin head. Aroma reminds me of Colt 45. Sour bitter flavor, lemmon...blahh. Not the best but also not the worst..but closer to worst than to best.

Hmm. Very interesting. Looks typical of your Pilsner, Ale, and Lagers. Decent looking beer but nothing of note. Ok. Now the smell of this thing is very sweet and unique. Do not know what to compare it to. I will say the same about the taste. Easy and sweet but is truly the first time Ive tasted anything like it. Its not a great beer but its just intriguing me right now.
