Commercial Description:
An all-sorghum beer. New Grist, a beer for Celiacs brewed from sorghum and gluten-free yeast grown on molasses. New Grist is the first “official” gluten free beer in the U.S., although it cannot technically be called “gluten-free” until established governmental guidelines are determined for all products claiming “gluten-free” status. In the interim, this Celiac-safe beer can be called “barley-free,” and is a welcome product to those who need to live on restricted diets due to intolerance to gluten, a protein found in common brewing grains such as barley, wheat, rye, oats, spelt, kamut and triticale.

Golden beer with a faint wine or cider aroma. Bought this one for the sole purpose of comparing it to the Redbridge I had recently. This was not nearly as good, however its better than no beer. The sorghum is more pronounced, and the hops are not as flavorful, letting some wierd flavors wierd flavors poke through. Its drinkable, but I’m glad I dont have to drink it.

Pours gold with yellow highlights. Interesting notes of green apple on the nose. Interesting flavor profile: apples, white grapes, grass, lemon and metal. Light and fizzy mouthfeel. Sweet and short finish. Unique to say the least. Kudos to them though for providing an option for those who are gluten intolerant. This really isn’t as horrible as everyone says. Take it for what it’s worth.

Pours golden yellow, light head. Light aroma of wine, beginning smell of peanuts though. Strange. Some apple cider smell in there as well. Slightly, quick, sour flavor with a really wet mouth feel. Odd aftertaste. I can’t really tell if I like it or not...

Crisp floral flavors and some light sweet fruit, with a light hop profile. Pleasant, but a little bit of a metallic tang creeps in there. I wouldn’t exactly flock to this beer, but for those with Celiac Disease it sure is better than no beer at all.

I have no idea what sorghum is, but if you put "beer" on the label, I’m willing to try it. This poured from my 12 oz bottle with a light orange hue, with little activity and a thin white fuzzy white head. This gives an odd aroma .. almost like cinnamon gum, or cough syrup ... not good. The flavor is a tad better, but similarly off-putting ... very medicinal, this reminded me very much of the cough syrup I had as a kid ... like artificially-flavored cherry cough-drops, or something along those lines. an interesting(that’s right Tad, i said interesting" concoction. a bright golden yellow that is very clear with a small white head. sake comparisons start in the nose, it has that fruity ester nose that i used to get from drinking a lot of warm sake at my last job. a bit of floral, like those white flowers that i can never remember the name of, but a girl i used to know loved. sweet apple cider like flavor with the finish of a sake without the alcohol bite. i did not go into this thinking, oh a rice beer, i bet it is like sake, that uis just what has hit me. the apple flavor is more pronounced than anything here. very thin, overly sweet and onesided for me, but far from a drain pour even though i won’t repurchase this, i can see why it was brewed and don’t feel bad about grabbing a 6 pack.
