jhumphries69 (717), Tyrone, Georgia, USA Nov 2, 2006 Pours extremely pale, light yellow with a white head that quickly disappears (looks more like ginger ale than beer).
Aroma smells like bread dough and yeast with hints of acid. The flavor and finish is strangely dry, not very malty and virtually no hops. I have a friend who is Celiac who gave a bottle to me. I think this beer is for Celiac’s who are used to drinking bland and uninteresting beers (i.e. industrial macro-brew lagers). A Celiac who was a beer afficianado before embarking upon their gluten-free regiment would be sorely disappointed. I have had other gluten-free beers that were much better (though they weren’t made from sorghum and rice as was this beer). HighGravity (890), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Oct 29, 2006 (Bottled the second week of August 2006) The beer’s color is a hazy yellow, the nose is slightly acidic, sort of ciderish. The palate is crisp, acidic, and light. There really isn’t much character of any kind. I guess this beer is designed for a niche market like their organic ESB. I have seen the organic ESB in the MD market also, but I would like to see the other more interesting Lakefront brews make it to this area. pmaher (1), USA does not count Oct 28, 2006 I’ve found this beer to be a disappointment. Lakefront Brewery usually does better than this. The beer has a nice clear golden color but the little head dies off immediately. The aroma has a sour smell and the first taste is of band-aids. This beer reminds me of a poorly made home brew. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Oct 21, 2006 Pours a transparent sparkling golden with a thin, wispy-lacing covering of white head. Grainy, slightly peppery floral aroma has a touch of citrus and noble hops. Body starts faintly sweet with some citrus tartness and a thin palate toward a fairly clean finish. crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Oct 19, 2006 Thanks to Degarth. Pours a clear golden, thin white head. For a beer with no barley, it’s not bad. Just a crisp refreshing lager style beer. Pretty much no hops and no other real flavors happening some slight sweetness. Really don’t know what to say it’s a better tasting pale lager. nick76 (2636), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 18, 2006 The aroma is sweet and fruity with rice (has a sake smell to it) and what I can only assume is sorghum. The appearance is light pale gold with a small head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is thin. This isn’t one of those beers you compare to the greats as its real value is for those who want a beer but can’t have one due to allergies. And it fits that role well and is quite drinkable. Silphium (2114), Haslett, Michigan, USA Oct 11, 2006 Pale orange body, thin to almost absent off-white head. Fleeting aroma with grain husks and a strange sour character. The same sourness is the defining characteristic of the lifeless body, which reminds me of significantly watered-down apple juice with a peculiar aftertaste that only becomes apparent after swallowing the "beer." I applaud the brewery for developing a beer possibly safe for Celiacs, but this about as good as gluten-free rice- or tapioca-based bread. Which means not very. TheDean (785), MIlwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Oct 11, 2006 Swear I’ve rated this beer before. This is probably my least favorite of the Lakefront brews. Like the concept and the fact my favorite brewery is willing to take chances, but just not a fan of the beer.
