Commercial Description:
An all-sorghum beer. New Grist, a beer for Celiacs brewed from sorghum and gluten-free yeast grown on molasses. New Grist is the first “official” gluten free beer in the U.S., although it cannot technically be called “gluten-free” until established governmental guidelines are determined for all products claiming “gluten-free” status. In the interim, this Celiac-safe beer can be called “barley-free,” and is a welcome product to those who need to live on restricted diets due to intolerance to gluten, a protein found in common brewing grains such as barley, wheat, rye, oats, spelt, kamut and triticale.

12 oz bottle. Clear light golden color with fizzy white head that dissipated quickly. Light apple juice aroma and flavor. Slightly sweet with a fruity finish. Interesting, but not my bag.

Pours a cloudy straw yellow with not much head. Aroma is fairly strong, somewhat malty and fruity with just a hint of hops. Flavor is crisp and pleasant, but rather weak - mainly fruity, more like a cider than a beer. It feels watery and thin, but at least it is drinkable. I’ve had plenty worse.

clear straw color with very active carbonation. Aroma smells like a tart, very light white wine- weird. Taste is light bodied, dry, it actually tastes more like a white wine in that it’s pretty tart and has some mild sour notes. It’s the first all sorghum beer I’ve had and on that front it’s interesting....will I have another? I’m not sure...

12oz bottle. Straw yellow with quickly diminishing head. Strange aroma, sorghum I presume mixed with apple. I’m going to guess that’s sorghum I’m tasting too along with apples. A little dry. Ho-hum but at least I gave it a shot.

Pours a pale, almost hazy yellow that rises up to create a short fluffy head and the body ends up looking like apple cider. Light sweet aroma. Taste starts off with a fizzy carbonation and then lemon and sugary sweet, not thick but it tastes like there’s a syrup running thru it. Finish is dry and odd. I guess there is the taste of sorghum within - I evidently don’t like that flavor very much.

New Leaf Market, Tallahassee, Fl. - 12 oz bottle. Pours a pale golden with very little head. Difficult to place aroma - some spice, baking bread, faint licorice. Slightly bland flavor. Somr seltzer and tonic water notes, some mineral water; hint of cherries. Slightly medicinal. Not very beer-like in my opinion. Slightly thin mouthfeel. Nice for a novelty, but very bland and uneventful.

Bottle. Small white fizzy head that ended up fully diminishing, lackluster lacing, carbonation, transparent, and a yellow hue. Sweet fruity nose and smelled somewhat water. Flavor just tasted dry and like water. Thin, watery, dry mouthfeel. Light body.
