COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An all-sorghum beer. New Grist, a beer for Celiacs brewed from sorghum and gluten-free yeast grown on molasses. New Grist is the first “official” gluten free beer in the U.S., although it cannot technically be called “gluten-free” until established governmental guidelines are determined for all products claiming “gluten-free” status. In the interim, this Celiac-safe beer can be called “barley-free,” and is a welcome product to those who need to live on restricted diets due to intolerance to gluten, a protein found in common brewing grains such as barley, wheat, rye, oats, spelt, kamut and triticale.

Bottle from the Co-op in Sacramento, CA. It pours a light yellow color with almost no head. It has a light fruity smell with a hint of corn. Tastes sweet and it is slightly over carbonated. One of the better gluten free beers I’ve had.

12 oz. bottle. Poured clear golden, white head. Aroma was fruity, citrus and some yeast. Taste was sweet, and apple juice like.

Pours almost champagne colored from a bottle. Aroma is sweet, almost like cider. Taste is crisp and again, very much like a cider. There’s a bit of what I describe as a home brew flavor in the finish.

Pale pour, white head. Aroma of grass, apples, yeast. Flavor is pretty much shit. It’s like a bad cider mixed with stale bread.

Bleh. This was like a really, really crappy champagne. Sour, bitter, carbonated fizzy drink that was foul all around. I pity the Celiac patients...

YigSvartka (269) - Manitoba, CANADA - DEC 29, 2015
Transparent yellow gold with a quickly dissipating head. Notes of apple (unexpectedly), honey, and grain in the aroma. Thin, light bodied. Surprisingly pleasant pilsener taste with the addition of apple and honey which supercedes most macros. Wee bit of hop in the finish. Far superior to Bard’s.
