COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An all-sorghum beer. New Grist, a beer for Celiacs brewed from sorghum and gluten-free yeast grown on molasses. New Grist is the first “official” gluten free beer in the U.S., although it cannot technically be called “gluten-free” until established governmental guidelines are determined for all products claiming “gluten-free” status. In the interim, this Celiac-safe beer can be called “barley-free,” and is a welcome product to those who need to live on restricted diets due to intolerance to gluten, a protein found in common brewing grains such as barley, wheat, rye, oats, spelt, kamut and triticale.

I don’t get this one. Pours a yellow/green, almost clear with a small, fizzy white head and some lacing. Aroma is quite weak with hints of grain and fruit. Flavor is light grain and citrus, grass, and fruit. Very thin body with plenty of carbonation. This is not good and seems much more like a cider than a beer,

Bottle:   Golden, fairly clear, moderate sudsy white head, spotty lacing.   Sort of this sweet mushroomy like aroma.   Its a little cidery too.   Has a weird apple/pear juice sort of flavor up front.   A little mealy, but not as much as I expected.   Low hop, well nil actually.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Trying to wrap my head around this one.   For some reason it reminds me of what a sour ale would be without the sour.   Has this pale fruity content, but its also mealy.   Not bad, certainly different.

Rice, hay, and corn aroma. Flavors of rice, corn, cardboard, and shredded paper. Plastic finish. Nice option for those with a gluten allergy.

Bottle. Golden in appearance. Fast disappearing head. Aroma is sweet, molasses. Taste is, YUCK. Just too sweet. I’m glad I can drink any beer I want.

Bottle from the Co-op in Sacramento, CA. It pours a light yellow color with almost no head. It has a light fruity smell with a hint of corn. Tastes sweet and it is slightly over carbonated. One of the better gluten free beers I’ve had.

12 oz. bottle pours a clear pale golden color with small white head and a bit of lacing. Hardly anything to smell. Aroma is more apple than anything else I could detect. Body is thin with very active carbonation. Taste is fruity sweet with a metallic finish. This one seems to be as much a cider as a beer. Weird enough that I don’t regret trying this once.

First sip seemed bland. Good amount of carbonation as opposed to the first gluten free brew I tried. This beer had a strange aftertaste, almost like watered down soda. I wouldn’t seek this beer out again.

Bottle - My first gluten free beer. Sweet apple juice with a bit of yeast. Pale clear yellow with no head. Very sweet and dry but I still taste apples. More like a cider than a beer. Not as bad as I expected with the reviews, but not really a beer.

Bouteille 355ml.

Never had anything like this one. Like a beer champagne. Interesting rice and carbonated taste. Not as bad as the rating give it

Ehhh. Pours a very pale yellow that is razor thin. The aroma is slightly fruity? The taste is a weird blend of frutiness w/ a mettalica finish. Not very beer like & certainly not good!
