| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jan 18, 2004 Rusty copper color with a browned-meringue colored head. Aroma has medium-roast malt and some squashy notes. Some mild hop spice as well. Peppery roughness pervades the taste along with some malt sweetness. Meh. MAP (1089), Lakewood, Ohio, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 5, 2004 Brownish amber color with only a little head present. Aroma has some malt, herbs, vegetable bits to it. Flavor is smooth and a bit sweet, but mostly a heartier flavor to it. Actually has a good complexity to the flavor, but the palate isnt quite as good. There is a lasting bitterness to it that could use a little improvement. JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 29, 2003 Updated: Oct 8, 2004Head is small and fizzy. Body is a somewhat dark reddish copper. Aroma is light... man... like a fruity sulphuric acid thing. Weird. Overall flavor is caramel sweet with light grapefruit like hops in the background. For some reason I was afraid I wouldn't like this beer at first, but I actually rather enjoyed it. It was a little sweet, but I still felt the sweetness and the hops had a good balance.
RERATE: Didn't want to change anymore of the above, but I have to mention the sulphuric acid taste. That seems off. But in general, it is overly sweet. What's up? Downgraded to a 10 overall for now. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 23, 2003 Clear amber with a large bubbled tan head. Smells like stale and musty vegetables and sweet corn, with some sweet bourbon aromas. Creamy palate, along with a sweet honey flavor. Ok, not great. beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 28, 2003 Color is glowing amber with a thin cream colored head that fades quickly and leaves minimal thin spotty lace. Smell is both and sweet and toasty; crispy. Toasted grains and buttery mostly with some sweet soft breadish malts. Taste is a nice mix of toasted grains and malty sweetness, much like sour dough bagels, sweet wheat and oats add some other layers to the sweetness. Quite bready and yeasty fresh. Nice lingering finish with a slight crispness and breadish tones. A nice taster! Feel is just over a medium body heft with a nice fullness in the swallow and ends with a mellowing crispness. A very nice O-fest. Looking at the previous reviews, I wonder what the hell is going on. I really liked this beer; this had nearly everything I expect in a good marzen/oktoberfest. I like the toastyer ones and this Lakefront brew had it. PorterPounder (3137), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Oct 23, 2003 First impression - wow - this is great - but as it settled - started to get very cloying and too sweet. Aroma is initially citrusy and fresh but after settling gets to smell more like overripe vegetables. Decent dark copper appearance with a thin white head - not much lacing. Flavor - the sweetness is overwhelming - reminds me of a candy apple with yeast dripping out of the sides - not a pleasant sight. Decent mouthfeel, goes down smooth. Not one of Lakefront's better offerings. Schroppfy (1813), Ohio, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Oct 19, 2003 Head-to-head with the Stoudt's fest. This is thinner and lighter in color, and nearly devoid of aroma. Big sourish malt, yukky and vegetably and sickly, really. My first real Lakefront disappointment (but I haven't had the barleywine! heh heh).
