redlem (1100), Illinois, USA Jul 5, 2008 This beer was better before it went organic. Now it is thin and does not have much flavor. Fairly malty with not enough hops to make it a bitter.
swoopjones (1092), Buffalo, New York, USA Aug 15, 2008 Bottle. Pours a light amber with light cola like body. Aroma is carmel malts with some odd out of place sourness. Taste was tart & sour with some onderlying caramelsweet malts. Not sure if this bottle went bad but down the drain it went after a sip or two BlackDonald (1040), North Carolina, USA Aug 14, 2008 Decent, straightforward take on the style. I found this to be very pleasant and easy to drink. Pours a clear burnt auburn coloring, with a small but sticky tan head. Looks like a glass of iced tea. Earthy floral aroma, with a semi sweet caramel maltiness, toasted toffee and a bit of light fruitiness that lingers well into the finish. I must have had a fresh bottle, this tasted really nice to me compared to the other ratings. Dickinsonbeer (2513), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Aug 7, 2008 12 oz beer. Porus a medium amber clear, lgiht carb, and a thin lasting head. Aroma is pretty weak- light caramel, some dusty toasted malts, stale lightly orange metallic hops. Stale toasted and crystal malts, cardboardy, with a slight earthyl pine sol and orange cleaner slick feel in the mouthfeel. Dry earthy finish. Tastes old, but was only bottled a couple months ago. What gives? zappafan99 (283), Rock Hill, South Carolina, USA Aug 6, 2008 Taste 8/8( bottle Aug20/07). Looks: Copper with thin tight-bubble head. Aroma: Odd...very yeasty and cherry. Like a mild malty lambic. Taste: Thin to medium bodied, yeasty brew with a little cherry. Grain/straw with a very American ESB taste. No tea, more caramel and yeast/sour. probstk (657), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Aug 4, 2008 12 fl. oz. bottle via Lubiere, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.
App.: A lovely shade of deep auburn, clear, remnants of a light tan head.
Aroma: Quite sour, almost a touch of lambic with the organic acids and a hint of funk, a little caramel malt behind that, sour cherries and other tart fruits,
Palate: Medium body and carbonation, with some astringency.
Flav.: An odd, sour fruitiness, a bit earthy and vinous, a touch of wood, slightly peppery (maybe); a bit tart, somewhat bitter with a mineral-malt finish that softens into brown sugar.
I think something is wrong here. Didn’t expect that much tang. Maybe the pesticides act like preservatives...
