Like a Northwest France strong summer ales - quenching and refreshing, but robust enough to match the full-bodied fare of a brasserie. Rendezvous Ale is a hybrid of malty richness and enough hops acidity (Brewer’s Gold, Tradition) to cut through the strong flavors of roasted lapin au moutarde, or a burly beef steak fries.

11/4/11. 22oz bottle. Hazy amber pour with a small khaki head. Plain, sweet aroma with a touch of spice that almost reminds me of a pumpkin beer. Sweet, slightly tart flavor that reminds me of something I can’t put my finger on... not quite vinegar... not bad, especially for under $5.

22oz bottle from Siciliano’s Market in Grand Rapids, MI. Pours a cloudy, blood orange colored body with an inch thick, dense and creamy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is sweeter caramel with some pear and florals. A bit bready with a light citrus, dark fruits, and a touch of yeast. Flavor is similar. A sweeter, somewhat doughy and bready caramel up front with a moderate floral note. Some pear, a light citrus, apple, and a few dark fruits. Yeast gives this a light spiciness towards the end that increases just a bit into a bready, slightly sweet, mostly dry finish. Fairly lengthy aftertaste following a light-medium body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, not a bad beer. Well balanced and easy drinking with a solid bready caramel sweetness that dries nicely with a light yeasty finish. Nice mix of fruits keeps this interesting. Nothing special, but well done.

Bomber. Pours fairly clear amber with foamy beige head. The aroma is caramel and toast with some fruity hints. The flavor is toasty with a strong caramelized sweetness. There are some fruity notes, like wild cherry, black currant, and a sort of greenness that hints at unripe fruit. Toward the finish comes a woody bitterness as that sweetness dries out. Some sweet caramel sticks around into the aftertaste, though. Decent, but really needs a tart edge to even things out.

Bomber from Spirits Red Bank. Poured a far darker brown then I was expecting, medium brown body that is slightly murky with an average to smaller off white foamy head. Aroma of bread soaked in chardonnay, some grapes and a hint of nut. Medium bodied with average to stronger carbonaton and a lingering fruity taste. Flavor is very much like the aroma with lots of wine flavors and grains followed by fruity grapes and slight nutts. Solid beer.

Hazy golden amber. Fruit citrus and other light fruits, mild spice and caramel malts. Sweet caramel fruit with some light tartness. Feels a little thick and creamy for the style. One of the better I’ve had from Lakefront.

(22oz bomber bottled August 2010) cloudy gold-orange with a ring/film of fine white bubbles. Nose of spices, grains of paradise, banana extract. Taste of grains of paradise, spicy kick, rotten banana, umami. Some flaws here, very earthy linger and astringent in general.

Pours a thick, rich cheddar orange with a nose of sweet floral biscuit. Flavor is raisin bread with a light cherry-sugar dusting. Yeasty finish. Thick on the tongue but dissolves into a tingly film. Pretty tasty.

22oz bottle. 2011 maybe? cloudy brownish caramel colored beer with a small white head. nose is fruity with red apple and some toffee notes. flavors of juicy pears and red apples with a lot of buttery toffee flavored malts. almost full bodied but still quite easily quaffable. odd bitterness in finish, but eventually goes away. pretty solid all around.
