12 oz bottle via Degarth (thanks!) and Malt of The Earth Beer Club. Pours a near black with a large tan head. Nose is very roasty, almost burnt. Pretty tasty for a ’dry irish stout’. Actually tastes more like an Oatmeal Stout. It is quite roasty though, with some chocolate, vanilla, and oat flavor. A lot of smokiness. Also some subtle fruity esters. Not dry. Light/medium body. High carbonation gives it a semi-prickly fizzy mouthfeel. There are some earthy hops in the finish as well. Not bad, but not really within style. I would call it a Smoked or a Stout... but not a dry Irish Stout...

Thanks to hopdog for the trade. Pours a deep black with a smaller creamy dark tan head that left some lace and did a nice job at sustaining. Aroma of sweet roasty malts, chocolate, dark fruits, some coffee, molasses...very nice aroma. Flavor of cocoa, kind of thin, hints of coffee and light roasted malts. Really like the aroma but was a bit let down by the flavor and mouthfeel.

Poor head retention, light body for a stout. Curious aroma of light coffee and pine. Odd tartness to it. One the first sip there was such promise: Come on baby....wait for it........wait for it.................blah......nothing. Dead, lifeless. What happened? Slight roasted character on the finish, but such a light body for a stout. In a word, "blah"....

12oz bottle-Balck body with a small tan head that dissipated quickly inot a small ring. Aroma of coffee and roasted malt. Taste of roasted malt, coffee, some tartness and watery. All the tastes come on the back end. Not a bad stout.

Bottled Feb. 06 Looks like I had the right beer already to mark my passing VENOM on the 100 Beer Club list. Poured in a stout shaker, there’s a nice slightly sour cherry smell, followed by a nose of bittersweet chocolate. Bit of sediment left behind in the bottle. Black beer body under fizzy brown CO2 head. When I get it close to my nose, it somehow smells dry, perhaps a bit like a riesling. Actual taste is a bit of a letdown: the carbonation is overdone and gassy, not what I’d exect in my stout. Coffee and chocolate malts are there, maybe with a little too much astingency. A bit of Guinness sourness can be found. So this brew has a few dings against it, but I realize this may be a bit past its prime. However, I’m pleased to find Lakefront in my area again.

Draft at the brewery. Aroma: Roasted malt, coffee, brown sugar. Appearance: Black with a small medium tan head. Small lacing. Flavor: Good roasted malt flavor with rich coffee flavor. Light cocoa and a touch of smoke. Light sourness right before the finish. Finish is dry and pretty clean. Palate: Medium-light bodied and a tad watery. Moderate carbonation. Overall: Not bad as dry stouts go, but lacking a bit in flavor, and the mouthfeel was too watery. Still, worth a try.

(bottle) Stout black with decent tan head. Roast coffee aroma. Flavor is roast coffee with a bit of hops. OK stout.

Thanks to Matta for this one. Pours ebony with 1-finger tan head. The pour here looks outstanding, and anyone rating the appearance of this one less than 4 needs a good ass-whipping. The aroma is roasty malty, with a solid amount of chocoff, cacao, some molasses. OK, the palate is a bit watery and the flavor is a bt discombobulated. I get some roasty malt, some coffee, tart cherry notes, and some cacao, but it isn’t terrible tasting by any means. Like Degarth said, concentrate this flavor and you have an elite beer. This is better than Guinness by far (which I know isn’t saying much, but it is a point of comparison for the noobs).
