(02.18.06) Sampled at FebFest ’06, Libertyville, IL. Pours brown-black with tiny off-white head and no discernable carbonation. Roasted malt aroma. Medium bodied stout that starts dry with tiny malt sweetness and dried fruit (prune?)/expresso/roasted malt flavors. Finishes dry with roasted malt flavor and bitterness fade. Flavorful and smooth. A very good dry stout.

In the bottle at Bill B.’s birthday party. Black in color with a dark brown head. Really big bubbles throughout. Strong chocolate aroma and flavor. A very tasty big body beer.

An enjoyable black bodied knock-off of traditional Irish Stouts. I make it a point of visiting Lakefront on Spring Saturdays to get it fresh out of the tap.

Wow, I might be going "against the grain" on this as I really enjoyed it. Black bodied and intimidating with a thin, oily, tan film sloshing around on top. Well-roasted aroma, coffee-bitter that carries over largely into the flavor. Full-bodied & oily, finishing dry. A fine stout.

Black liquid with a thin coffee head. Liquid smoke and strong coffee aroma. Adequate body. Porter-like flavour. Hint of sourness and a definite wine-like presence. Some charcoal notes and a quick finish.

roasted coffee aroma, smokiness. Pours an opaque black, thin off-tan head. Strong bitterness up front. Thin body for a stout. Coffee/astringence finish. Unfocused...misses the mark.

Black. Nose has typical coffee bitterness, some sweetness. Flavor is quite roasty, bit of burnt wood, bitter chocolate, and coffee.

Black with a small tan head. Presence of dark chocolate coffee and some smoke in the nose. Thin, watery texture with mild flavors of chocolate and coffee. The flavors are more apparent in the finish, however it’s too late to save this one.
