This, to me, is almost undrinkable. It is black with a medium, tan head that slowly shrinks to a permanent thin top and leaves a little weak lace. The aroma is not bad at first, being burnt leaves, coffee, chocolatye, damp wheat bread, a hint of prunes and steak sauce. However, as it warms, the aroma deteriorates and becomes more steak-saucy. The taste is the real weak point, being turned plums, hints of vinegar, steak sauce, and coffee with the faintest hint of choclate. It’s very sour. it has some silkiness in the feel, but with the one-sided character, this is hardly enough even to give it a good palate.

12 oz bottle served in a shaker pint. Poured a nice dark brown with a 1/2" beige head. So far so good. Then I stuck my nose in the glass. This stuff smells like nasty sweaty feet. Not to be driven off, I then took my first sip, sour, metallic, fetid, rotten, etc. I can no longer say I’ve never met a stout I didn’t like. I did drink the whole thing. I’m a trooper if nothing else, cheap too. I have another one too! Trades anyone. All kidding aside, I noticed that I am the 7th bad rating in a row. Maybe a bad batch out there?

(12oz bottle, bottled 3rd week, Feb.) Small and creamy beige head that mostly dissipates, atop brown-black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, molasses, coffee, some chocolate syrup, roast. Taste evidences infection, as the sourness overwhelms the hint of chocolate left behind -- I seriously consider my 2/10 score for flavor to be an act of charity. Bummer.

(Bottled in week 2, Feb. (’08 presumably) from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/maine/wiscasset target=blank>Treats) Sour, fizzy...Pours very dark brown with some dark rubyish hightlights. Four fingers of tan head recede to about 1/4". Aroma of chocolate, coffee with cream and perhaps a whiff of molasses. Mouthfeel, uh-oh, feels wrong as soon as it touches my lips - strangely fizzy, perhaps a bit thin underneath. Taste is sour and not in a good way. I could taste some coffee with cream and chocolate but the probable infection-induced sourness overwhelms it all. Dud.

A light brown head with a black body. The aroma is light caramel and coffee. There is also a little bit of milk chocolate. The taste has some burnt day old cheap, nasty coffee. There is also a little bit of nasty grass. Wow, this is pretty terrible.

12 oz bottle. Deep dark brown beer with a fast-fading head. Aroma is lightly roasty and very tart. A bit of coffeeish character and thin roastiness. Lightly vegetal. Meh

this pours a nice near black with a vigorously carbonated tan head which fades quickly. aromas of wood, cream, roasty grains, some coffee, a touch of sour and light grassiness. flavor follows suit for the most part... there’s some tartness (maybe from the carbonation?), light ashy roast on the finish and smokiness noticed in the aftertaste. medium body with a parching mouth feel. nice surprise...
