Rerate 8-1-2005 based on tap sample at brewery. About as good as any Guinness clone, for better or worse. Classic dark appearance with some lightening at the edges when held to light. Aroma of cocoa powder, instant coffee and unsalted walnuts. Easy going on the entry, with few subtle nuances. Standard roasted malts and chocolate accents in a powdery form, and a little bit of brazed pecans. Some acidic searing at the corners of the palate. A fair stout.

Thanks to hopdog for the trade. Pours a deep black with a smaller creamy dark tan head that left some lace and did a nice job at sustaining. Aroma of sweet roasty malts, chocolate, dark fruits, some coffee, molasses...very nice aroma. Flavor of cocoa, kind of thin, hints of coffee and light roasted malts. Really like the aroma but was a bit let down by the flavor and mouthfeel.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of Degarth. Pours completely black and opaque with a handsome, tall, dense light brown head leaving some lacework. Tart but also burned aroma. Rather thin in body with very burned, ashy malt notes. The finish is dry. Not bad. 080707

almost black under a small, quickly dimishing, tan head. nice creamed coffee, milk chocolate aroma. flavor is creamy coffee and roasted malts with touch caramel in the finish. light to medium boded. a little too carbonated for the style but still a bit underrated.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a very dark brown with a small tanned head. Slightly sweet with aromas of toeasted malts and a hint of coffee. Coocies in the backbone. Hint of toothpaste? Burnt dry finish.

Bottled January, week 4. Poured a deep root beer brown with a towering frothy cara-mocha head. Nose was somewhat subdued, but enjoyable.. with mocha, lightly-roasted coffee, and other dark maltage. Flavor profile was similar, but didn’t carry as much weight... dry roasted coffee and some graininess, mostly. Light-bodied, but not to the point of watery. Bit of a dry, grainy, roasted overall character. Enjoyed it.

Very smoky flavor with a hint of sweetness. Nice head. A sweet fruity aroma that was not evident in the taste. Dry finish. Not bad but not a standout.

12 oz. Two-finger head that tries to last. Char, caramel, and dry wood aroma. Tastes of char, cocoa, caramel, lactose, and green spicy herb. Medium-heavy body is watery, acidic tingly, and dry.
