Among the cheap beers, this is a real find. It actually has some aroma and the taste is good relative to the price. It is smooth and very drinkable. A value find for those on a budget.

Originally rated June 2009. I was quite surprised to see Lakeport come out with an ale (and especially pleased). Pours a pale golden colour with a big white head that creates nice lacing. Slow carbonation composed of small bubbles. The nose is grainy with malt and the mouthfeel is pretty wet and crispy, with just little stick in the background. The taste is well balanced to not be to strong, but yet between the sweet malt (which is not too sweet) and the hop (not too hoppy as well). I find notes of red apples in the aftertaste, and this is quite refreshing. This is one of those beers that I have had many times since it has come out, and one of my favorites in the discount brands at The Beer Stores in Ontario.

the smell is pretty good, smells like a lagery beer of strength, it looks bubbly and light gold. tastes dry and sort of like yeast but the taste fades quickly. it has a good mouthfeel compared to beers in its class a little harsh and its only 5%, but still it gives it some interesting characteristics to make it stand out among dollar beers, i really like it and obviously its pretty cheap.

I believe in rating beers like this on their own merit - that being, how good can a discount beer possibly be? This was a pleasant surprise, under the circumstances.
Pours medium-gold, leaning more toward the pale yellow side of things. Head disappears quickly, but the lacing sticks around for quite awhile.
Aroma is on par with other Lakeport offerings - some chemicals, pencil erasers and weak apple juice.
Taste is surprising - very little up front, but some hop presence back in there This is probably the best beer the Lakeport line’s got to offer.

Bottle 341ml
Appearance: Clear , straight golden brew with medium light white top.
Nose : Plain , grainy dusty aroma similar to sleeman ales. Light hint of hop spice with sugar dust.
Flavor/Palate : Medium thin bodied. Fairly smooth with out excessive carbonation. Sure its light and simple as can be but it is also fairly drinkable. Light biter ending in sweet pale malt brew. No rocket science here I give you that but in discount beer category this is a steal.

341ml bottle pours a pale golden color with a small white head that leaves no lacing. Aroma is light grains and hops. Taste is light malty sweet with a mild hop bitterness. Average macro lager.

Bottle courtesy of MrManning. Pours a very pale gold with a small diminishing fizzy white head. Aroma’s odd. It’s sweet, corny, vegetal and grainy -- that sounds like your typical Canadian buck-a-beer but there’s something about the sum of it’s parts that’s different and weird. I’ve honestly smelt much worse though, for one thing it’s pretty mild so that helps -- still, it’s not very nice. Flavour: Ehhh, it starts passable but a few sips in and I’m not loving it. There’s not much flavour at first but then it’s corn, grain, alcohol and an unpleasant finish. Light to medium bodied, sticky mouthfeel. Anyways, I’m done with this, down the drain the rest goes.

2008-04-13. Yellow body with a tiny white head. Rough grainy malt aroma, prominent alcohol notes that imply a greater alcohol presence that indicated on the label. Similar rough grains in the flavour, more bitterness than I’d expect from a mainstream beer which is actually nice to see, more of the rough lightly astringent grains as seen in the aroma. Average palate is quite carbonated, and actually pretty solid by macro standards. (Which admittedly does not set a particularly high bar!) Managed to sample it before it warmed up and its not quite as bad as some of the other ratings might suggest. It has very little to offer though, and becomes increasingly hard to drink as the glass goes on, particularly as it gets warmer and releases some of the... nuances... of the flavour. Ok thats enough... Bottle courtesy of MrManning, shared with Mabel

Bottle (341ml). From either MrManning or Matt7215 - not really sure. Gold pour with a large bright white frothy styrofoam-looking head and totally still looking after the pour settled (2+). Sweet aroma, honey, clover and a bit of paper. Taste - yeck - watered-down pvc and brown grocery bags, vaguely sweet and very harsh. Watery, still, harsh mouthfeel - not horrible, but easily avoided. Another winner - "thanks" Lakeport - at least you’re a friggin buck a bottle (rolls eyes).

341ml bottle, 5% a/v Buck A Beer Looks reasonably decent, too carbonated and obviously not natural carbonation, but I can overlook that. Smells, weird. Like strange malts, musty smells. The taste is VERY similar to lakeport pilsener with just a bit more flavour and aftertaste. I seriously wonder if it is the same recipe but with the yeast swapped. Either way, its better then lakeport pilsener without the chemical taste, but thats not saying alot for it.
