0.9 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20
UPDATED: AUG 21, 2005 Iím not sure what kind of filth I was expecting from this famously cheap beer, but I suppose its banality is the most offensive aspect. Fizzy, weak, totally devoid of flavour, especially that supposed "honey" influence. If this beer were to come in contact with an actual jar of honey, both would vaporize instantly -- this is pure anti-honey. Youíre basically adding sweetener to undrinkable wastewater; in Germany they might call this Gewissensbissebier: a beer of remorse. As for the name, why call attention to your polluted, disgusting lakes? Yeesh.

330ml bottle sample purchased at Lakeport brewery. Iím not going to do a full fledged review for this. If youíve had regular Lakeport, this is pretty much the exact same thing.

I remotely taste the honey in here. And I kind of like this one. Not all that appealing, but quite smooth with a touch of carbonation. Good drink after a long day of hiking.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
355ml Bottle: Ah, the Canadian insurgence of buckabeers. I had low expectations and yet, Lakeport still managed to disappoint. Iím assuming by "honey" they mean they found a bee floating in the vat while it was "aging" for a few minutes, because nothing smells or tastes like honey at all. No head to speak of, a barely sweet aroma, and an artificially bitter taste. Why pay a buck for this instead of $1.50 for something good?

Pretty much as youíd expect from a discount brewer. Not much here but it is my preference of the macro honey lagers.

Interesting amber/murky orange in colour. Relaxed aromas of grain, hop and caramel, and no real significant honey presence. Over-fizzy palate is slightly irksome. While watery and generally lacking any flavour besides a caramel finish, this is actually better than other Ontario "Top 10" beers.

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
341ml Bottle, 5%. Pours a color slightly darker then honey. Looks to be well carbonated, small white head. Tastes slightly malty with a hint of caramel. Very mild hoppy finish, with a smooth palate. This is my personal favorite of all the "buck a beer" beers around here.

The best of the Lakeport line. I used to love this stuff when it was all I could afford. But now, I cringe at the thought of another sip. I swear they brew this stuff from unfiltered Lake Ontario water. Even when youíve had a few too many you still taste that odd/rancid taste that overshadows the sweetness of the honey.
In a word... Balls.

1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pours a golden colour with a thin white head. Sweet grassy hop aroma. Medium sweet flavour somewhat metalic as well. As this beer warms the corn seems to be showing up, fizzy carbonation. Another crappy pale lager.
