0.7 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20 djjodskins (7) - CANADA - MAY 27, 2007 does not count
This has to be one of the worst beers i’ve ever bought. Don’t get me wrong, i don’t mind lakeport brews, lakeport strong is not bad and brava is a great cerveza, and especially good when the cash is tight, but this was godawful. At first glance, (and glass) it has a nice red amber hue and creamy head, and on the first few tastes seems like a reasonable attempt at their own version of rickards red and all these new red beers out lately. On my second beer i begin to notice the horrible sugary undertones which become very overbearing and frankly, disgusting. After a couple i am absolutely dry and foaming at the mouth from too much sugar, its as if they made a standard batch of lakeport pilsner and poured a metric ton of red syrup in the vat. i traded the rest of mine with my friends for other beer, and all my friends also found it completely abhorable. This is coming from 19-20 year college kids, who may not know their beer nearly as well as the conneisseur, but we know when were jipped with a badly brewed, artifically flavored beer.

This is Lakeport’s newest buck a beer. And a buck a beer is too much. This is a pure adjunct and sugared all to hell mix of kife. The pour is appealing, dark copper with a beige head and some retention. The aromas are straight out the gutter wet paper, burnt malts, stale hops, maybe some old damp hay. The flavour profile is sweet and faux. Like brown sugar mixed with lakeport pilsner. A touch of old hops and cardboard, with syrupy ass. A complete debacle in a bottle. Why bother making a new colour of a beer you already produce?

I am very fortunate to have been given this beer for free at a gathering of friends. My beerly apt buddy said "hey have you tried this before" The answer was no to this one. Bit darker then the pale lager swill from Lakeport. Aroma has a bit of malt in it, but not in a good way, in an overly fake sweet bad way. I couldn’t find anything redeeming about this beer, not even the free part. Too sweet and artificial for my liking, compared to the many other beers out there that call themselves “red.” If there was a beer extract that was out there and it was called “red beer flavouring” this is the brand that would use it in the worst way that I’ve yet to find.
