COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Laker Red is our newest addition to the popular priced Laker family. Brewed with a combination of darken malt gives this all natural strong style beer its amber, reddish hue.

Originally rated August 2005. Their site still says 5.9% ABV, but the label on my bottle is at 5.5% ABV. Bought in Ontario too. Pours a clean golden-brown-red colour with a foamy off-white head. Light carbonation and retention, with no lacing in sight. The nose is pretty impressive though, with strong rusty malt. The mouthfeel is watery and the taste is far from what it smells. Mostly corn. Starts off slightly bitter, but middle is corn, finish is corn and aftertaste is corn. Nothing offensive, and if you like corn... you will like this one. Just don’t expect a red tasting brew.

Bottle, pours a nice reddish colour, that is quite clear, the beer was refreshing, it had a very nice and easy drink taste, prob the best laker product I have tasted. very crisp

Bottle from brewery. Poured light brownish red with little head that faded quickly. Aroma is of light malt with nothing else. Taste is similar. Really smooth. Ok I suppose.

341mL bottle from a mixed-6, from the brewery retail store. Pours out a clear red with a big white head. Looks nice, but the aroma is pretty bad, not much going on except some crappy malts with corn and adjuncts. No hops, no distinctive malt characteristics. Lame. The flavour is just as lame, really not much to speak of, same crappy probably adjuncty malts, a tiny hint of caramalt except that it’s so faint I might just be hallucinating. Not as cloyingly sweet as you might think but there is absolutely ZERO hop activity here. I would not willingly drink this again. Lakeport Red actually has more distinct flavour to it, which is absolutely pathetic. Really not very good.

Tasted 11/3/08. 12oz bottle. Filtered with an amber hue. Moldy ring of head. Caramel cereal aromas. Medium bodied with sweet malts and a bitter acidic finish. Moderate effervescence. Touch dry in the finish.

UPDATED: NOV 9, 2009 one of the best buck a beers, a much stronger and initially better taste than would be expected, but after a few beers it gets a little annoying.

Bottle at my Bro’s. The only thing he had at the time and I was kinda thirsty so what the heck, might as well have one. Aroma was grainy sweet but very faint. Pour light copper with a small dimishing head. As I drank it I was reminded of Rickard’s Red but the finish was a bit more harsh and had that discount beer chemical taste. Nothing noteworthy about this beer.

Bottle. There’s a touch of red in the appearance, but more-so deep amber meets brown. Pleasing malt and cherry aroma. Palate is a little thin, and is bettered by a rich malty flavour and berryfruit middle. Thin malt finish. Fairly ordinary, though a standout in the Ontario buck-a-beer category.
