COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The first release in our Legendary Series, Brabo’s Cut is a bold, complex Belgian-Style Dark Ale. Brewed with blessed water, it’s rich with notes of brown sugar, figs, and sweet honey, compliments of the local, wildflower honey from our brewer’s family hives. Inspired by how the Belgian city of Antwerp got its name, it tells the story of a Roman soldier named Silvius Brabo, the man who slayed the giant Druon Antigoon. Antigoon guarded a bridge over the river Scheldt, and demanded all travelers pay a toll to cross. If you didn’t have the money, he would chop off your hand. Brabo, growing tired of these antics, decided to repay him in kind by chopping off Antigoon’s own hand, slaying him, and throwing his hand into the river below. Thus the name Antwerp, or Antwerpen (Dutch for "to throw hand"). Today we honor Brabo’s heroism with these spoils of a job well done. A mighty reward that we share with you.

Pours a clear brown color with off-white head. Sweetness on the nose, with some caramel notes and cereal grain; follows onto the palate. Finishes sweet.

22 ounce bottle thanks to Errl. Pours a clear mahogany with a thin beige head of foam. The aroma has notes of figs, raisin, wood, and brown sugar. The taste is definitely more on the sweet side with characteristics of an aged barley wine. Not bad. I do get a bit of a metallic note after the swallow, though.

Paired well with a cheese course. Palate definitely seems off. Improved at warmer temperature. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle:   Caramel, a bit of a darker reddish hue, thin to moderate tannish head, frothy, spotty lacing.   Darker bready nose, a little toffee, faint dark pitted fruit.   Somewhat doughy, a little mealy.   Bready start, moderate dark pitted fruit, mealy, not as musty or bright as most Belgians.   Certainly comes across as being American.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Caramel and toffee on the finish, dark breadiness, faint dark pitted fruit, doughy, a bit chewy.   Wished it had more musty or barnish funky notes that is common with Belgians.   Like most American examples, more cereal flavors than I prefer.   Still decent.   Thanks Bill!

Tap at Zios. Pours a very pretty dark ruby color that is fairly clear. Huge foamy head response. Aroma is light, Belgian fruit and yeast, touch of sugar. Flavor is slightly tart, no more than tart. Very bready finish, like a loaf of bread kind of finish. Some sweet notes on the center, dry Brett flavor. Almost woody. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Based on the other reviews this must have been a bad bottle. Looked okay, smelled fine, tasted funky in a bad way.

Bomber from Rosebud Butternuts. Pours very dark coppper with a slight beige head. Aroma is dark fruit with a touch of honey. Makes me think of cola. Fell bodied. Flavor is dark fruit, dark malt and something like aged honey. If you’ve had brown/black honey from a hive - you know it. Finishes rather dry for the amount of malt. Definitely Belgian, though fruity esters are hard to distinguish.

Reddish pour with a white head. Nose is caramel, brown sugar, pine, metal, and booze. Some pear, banana, and cherry fruit notes. The flavor is boozy and very sweet. Metallic, lots of caramel and brown sugar. Some cherry, raisin, pear, and banana.

651 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, quickly thinning, light beige head, with slight lacing, over a dark amber (SRM 18) body.....nose is light raisin, plum, hints of floral honey, brown sugar.....taste is mildly sweet throughout, with tones of plum, raisin, fig, finishing with light spice/hop bitterness.....mouth feel light, sticky, lightly astringent, alcohol warmth present, carbonation adds clean acid finish. This is a very light take on a Dark Belgian Strong Ale. The complexity and richness in aromas and flavors are very light. This needs something different in the malt bill, and in addition makes me wonder about a change of yeast. This is not a bad beer, it just isn’t a particularly good representation of the style.
